I don't see any of the core guys being the problem: Gio, Hamilton, Gaudreau, Monahan. Not Backlund.
If it's one of the secondary guys like Brodie, Ferland or Frolik etc. then Francis is saying nothing, any one of those could be traded and probably will be in the off-season.
Maybe the team needs more leaders like Gio, that may be the underlying issue.
Problem is, where is the currency to get one if one of the core guys isn't included in the deal? There are no picks to be traded anymore.

Francis isn't going to write ####, he's just stirring the pot like usual. Judging by the ludicracy in this thread, it worked.

Francis definitely took the easy way out saying, whoever gets traded is the problem.

One poster suggested maybe looking into trading Gaudreau and this whole board flips out. Too funny.

I see it this way. If Treliving isn't exploring every single option to push this team into perennial contender, he's not doing his job. That'll include a conversation about Gaudreau and every single other player on the team whether we as fans like it or not.

Francis canceled all credibility in that interview when he praised Troy Brouwer, who has been the definition of a going through the motions player since he arrived. Gulutzan was a horrendous mistake, no need for our questionable mgmt to compound with idiotic trades, but as a longtime Flames fan, odds are they will.

I don’t really blame them. This fanbase that has had to endure the likes of Gilmour, Savard, Phaneuf, and to a lesser extent Iginla, traded for horrendous returns. I can see why we would be terrified of the proposition of our best player being traded, the track record of this team doing such a move in the past has been franchise crippling.

Jiri's argument, and Philly's assumption, were wrong.
Back to the thread, every team, and every situation, are different. The Flames need another top forward. The best way to acquire that, IMO, is by moving a defenseman. And IMO, the best solution is Hamilton.

In my original post I even pointed or that la won so I don’t understand what you think you corrected

Jiri used that as a justification for trading Gaudreau. But the premise was wrong.
I never once said they were bad trades.
Some people clearly just like to argue. I would prefer actually reading some good ideas. Especially from you. I see you criticize other posts a lot. I would like to know what you think the team should do.

No I wasn’t using it to justify trading him. I was merely pointing to it as a similar situation

I'm always intrigued with the "guys you win with" discussions. Loubardias spent the better part of 2 years talking about (and almost choking up) about how Kris Russell is a guy you win with, but there's no winning on his NHL resume. On the flip side, most, if not all winning teams have more than a few guys that would be considered "guys you don't really win with."

I think the "guys you win with" thing is a tad overblown. Superstar centers, hot goaltending, a legit number one d man and depth wins. Kessel wasn't seen as a guy you win with. Look at him now.

Well, yeah, but thats largely because when teams are done dealing with Crosby and Malkin who can they match up against Kessel?
He gets some pretty favourable matchups. Thats not a slight against him its just prudent coaching and enviable depth. But theres one team in the league that has it and there was a lot of good fortune involved in getting there.
Its just the sign of a deep, deep team.

Actually, he said he doesn't think he's a player you win with.
Then he doubled down with the comment that he doesn't think Gaudreau does what he needs to to be his best, challenging his diet as an example.
And there was more than one poster suggesting trading him.
Posts like yours do nothing to add to the conversation, all they do is stir up more anger.

That doesn't disprove his point though. Every winning team has players on it that fans would call 'someone you can't win with' if that player was put on a weaker team in a roll that they weren't able to fill.
