Getting AV here would be for me, Trelivings yearly home run swing in the off season. The biggest add to push the team higher. This is the #1 FA signing the Flames need. More than Tavares, more than anything else.

No thanks to AV. Everything I've read points to him having terrible deployment strategies and zero defensive structure. Not only that, but he's stubborn too. Ringing any bells?

It would be the same people on this board complaining about all of the same issues, just with a different target behind the bench.

AV is going to be in no rush to sign with a new team until playoffs are over considering he is guaranteed $4 million a year right now to do nothing. The only way I see flames signing him by next week is if they offer him $6million a year.

A 23 man roster should not employ Glass, Bartkowski, or Brouwer. That is on management.

I think AV is a little better. Trotz is good but the Preds have done better under new coaching. He's been a bit hit and miss in Washington.

Does anyone have input on how AV would do with a guy like Bennett? Does he bring the best out of some players, or just lean on vets/favorites?

If the Flames aren't offering AV a job then Treliving or whoever is calling those shots needs to go (cheap ownership?).

I don't doubt other teams would be courting him but if it's like the Boudreau situation where Calgary doesn't even make a pitch... that would be the last straw for me.

Almost every team's fans complain about deployment. And no, the lack of defensive structure doesn't sound familiar. Unless you are talking Hartley. I prefer stubborn to knee jerk.

The writing was on the wall when the Rangers proclaimed they were in rebuilding mode, and AV stubbornly prefers vets, so the two are moving in different philosophical directions.

As long as the only "vets" on the team are Gio and backlund, we good.

He’d be a great fit here, always thought of him as a good defensive coach and motivator.

The thing to guard against is that a guy with his experience and profile takes the job to pad his own resume or bank account. I think we saw a bit of that with Keenan. He was good but not great. Did not bring his A game to the Flames. When faced with adversity (injuries), his system crumbled.

I’ll bet Treliving has already called AV

Brad had better be on the phone as soon as this game ends.

But, knowing our luck we’re in for year 3 of GG.

AV seems like he fits the mold of a players coach that this team claims they want but he has the results so likely could be a much better fit for the group. If the Flames can get him I am very comfortable in that decision moving forward even if it means not waiting for other potential confidantes to emerge after the playoffs.

Can you provide some examples? I've just browsed the TOI/G reports for a bunch of seasons, and nothing jumps out to me as unusual...

I have a question for posters ... do you think ownership would pay $4-5 million a year for a coach?

Some posters brought this up weeks ago and it really got me thinking that ownership has a budget for a coaching staff.

I seem to remember him riding his skilled players heavily in Vancouver. But thats just my memory/eye test.

Ownership pays more than that for Troy f’in Brouwer for God’s sake. If money is the issue here this team deserves to stay in the toilet.
