Want to? No.
I'd be banking on Brodie's game returning to previous heights thanks to being under a new coach + reuniting him with Gio (and being back on the right side).
Wanting to trade Dougie? No no. Nope. To acquire someone the skill of Nylander though, you have to pay a steep price.

The team has enough cap space to target tavares.
Tavares
Monahan
Backlund
Jankowski
That would be unreal for depth up the middle. And with anderrson ready, defensive depth is amazing too. Tavares, a coach and a RH shot for the pp is all this teams needs to be a top 4 team in the conference.
Tl;dr: Gully sucks. Tre is awesome.

Yeah, that'd be fun.

Tavares would 100% be on #1 line
Wouldnt trade a #1 D man for Nylander. Hamilton isn't much older and creates a larger hole in the roster. Something more like Brodie for Hoffman would suffice (Brodie is more replaceable from within).
Stone could actually probably fetch a 2nd or third on a contending team.

Even if true, point stands. Don't think the Flames are a horse in the Tavares race. Just don't see how they pay Tavares a 70m
contract (7years @10m cap hit)minimum and manage to keep the core imtact and still somehow find the space for Tkachuk who should be priority #1.
I don't know, maybe they move Monahan or Backlund. I mean I'd move Backlund in a heartbeat if the Tavares thing became a reality but man I just don't see it.

You need to have a players rights prior to the previous deadline to sign him to 8 years.

Okay. Fixed.
Bennett (1.95)- Tavares (11.5) - Foo (.925)
Gaudreau (6.75) - Monahan (6.375) - Nylander (6.75)
Tkachuk (.925) - Backlund (5.35) - Frolik (4.3)

Seriously though - #1/#2/#3/#4 - these labels for lines is a thing of the past. William Nylander is a "#4th liner" at times by the same definition you're using. This league is about being able to score from all lines. The only team that really jumps out as a team that stacks a 1st line is Boston.
Tavares makes everyone around him better.
Gaudreau makes everyone around him better.
Split them up 5v5, play them together on the PP.

I'm with you, trading Dougie would suck. I do however believe he gets us far and away the best return. Brodie, I believe, can return to an elite level of play. Getting him away from Gully, back together with Gio, and back on the right side could pay off huge. RHD also has Andersson and Fox moving up the ranks, and the team just acquired Hamonic. I could see Hamilton being moved, though I wouldn't agree with it outright.

I doubt this. I like Stone, but he just isn't very good.

Vanek doesn't show up at key moments? Well, he has 14 points in 17 games for Columbus down the stretch this year.
Sign Vanek to a 1-year deal to play with Bennett and Janko. He was huge with Horvat and Boeser in Vancouver and has nearly 60 points this year

Monahan has a great shot and chrmistry with gaudreau. If taveres can be had, be interesting to try monahan at rw.

Monahan shoots left, though, and has really no significant wing experience. I'd sooner try Tkachuk or Bennett

Toronto would have to add to Nylander and quite a bit to get Hamilton.

I don't get why everyone keeps putting the Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik line together.. It really didn't work this year.
It was nice that Tkachuk learned from the other two but he carried the offence this year. Put Tkachuk on another line and let Backlund-Frolik be defensively responsible. I can see Tkachuk having a monster year with 2 offensive forwards.

I think if the Flames land Tavares (unlikely) one of the biggest selling points will be Gaudreau being his LWer for the next 4 seasons at a minimum.

I do like this but it isn't all needed this year. Trade Stone and Frolik for picks and sign Tavares and extend Tkachuk this off season is all that really would be needed. Might even be able to sign Kane with a Brouwer buyout
Gaudreau (6.75) - Monahan (6.3) - Kane (6.25)
Tkachuk (1.75) - Tavares (11.5) - Bennett (1.95)
Ferland (1.75) - Backlund (5.3) - Foo (0.925)
Lazar (0.9) - Jankowski (1.5) - Shore (1.0)
Hathaway (0.75)
Klimchuk (0.75)
Gio (6.75) - Hamilton (5.75)
Brodie (4.65) - Hamonic (3.9)
Kulak (1.0) - Anderson (0.8)
Wotherspoon (0.65)
Smith (4.25)
Gillies (0.8)
This adds up to $75.925 and it includes Tkachuk getting his bonuses. Cap no way is less than 77 next year. Even with Brouwer buyout you can stay under the cap if it is 78. Extend Tkachuk for 8 years @ $6.5 mil and re-evaluate who needs to be moved again next summer.

Maybe I don’t watch enough Leafs games, but you gotta do WAY better than Nylander if you’re trading Hamilton. Way better.

Babcock demotes Nylander to the 4th line quite often. He also plays with Mathews and his numbers aren't that great. He isn't worth Hamilton or over 6 mil salary. I wouldn't trade Hamilton for Nylander and a first

Then I am glad you are not our GM. I would do Hamilton for Nylander and a 1st in a second. You know who else Babcock used to play on the 4th line in their early years in the NHL? Datsyuk and Zetterberg both. When Nylander matures he will be more than likely on par with Gaudreau talent wise. I see quite a bit of the Leafs and Nylander has mad talent.

Gee, that's alot for a bottom feeder rebuilding team to give up for a 1-year rental.
Unless this was your list of trades that are sure to never occur?

Tavares would be amazing but he's gonna have a huge list of teams to chose from and I just don't see what puts Calgary over the top for him. Dare to dream though. Having another superstar is exactly what this team needs. Take some pressure off Johnny.
