Quite unusual/rare. They just gave some stats on CNN from the FBI - "FBI did an exhaustive study (2000 - 2013) and of the 160 some odd mass shootings (what the FBI considers a mass shooting), only 6 shooters were female."

Some more information about the victims and shooter

At least four people were shot at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno on Tuesday, according to a police spokesman. Three victims were taken to local hospitals. A fourth victim died at the scene, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Shooting victims included a 36-year-old male in critical condition, a 32-year-old woman in serious condition, and a 27-year-old woman in fair condition, according to a Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital spokesman Brent Andrew.

The shooter was a woman, San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said. Several hundred employees were evacuated on Tuesday noon after the shooting began. As of 5:34PM ET, Google was still advising YouTube employees to shelter in place “until further notice.”

Holy crap, it was not too long ago that I was working right across the street from that shooting spot. There is an Italian restaurant across the street that wasn't too bad and we would walk there for lunch regularly. The YouTube building is such an unassuming facility and location. I hope the victims can recover from this, this one hits a little too close to home.

Looks like she was mad her videos were getting demonetized and age-restricted, so she went there to shoot the place up. That statement probably doesn't even make sense unless you know what the YouTube adpocalypse is and have an idea of how detrimental it has been to the livelihoods of content creators.

My first thought was that it was someone who was super mad about the recent changes YouTube has made. I just started watching a series called Ultimate Expedition, a bunch of YouTube celebs go climbing in the Andes. I had no idea 20 year olds became millionaires from posting gaming videos. Recently the cast of the show has been posting videos complaining about the changes and how they're going broke cause no one sees their stuff anymore. The standard chili pepper eating video that used to fetch a million views now just gets 20k. I can see someone losing their mind over that.

One the bright side it looks like she's Iranian so Fox can chalk one up to foreign terrorist.

There is no free speech in real world & you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered & merely relegated, so that people can hardly see their videos!

This was the first thing out of my daughter's mouth when I called to her to come see what was going on - she figured that was the reason (demonetized mainly) as soon as she watched what was happening.

As OMG!WTF! said, Fox will have a field day most likely, with her nationality and spinning the terrorism angle but the fact that the FBI isn't involved and never was should be a substantial clue that this wasn't a terror attack in any way, just a pissed off consumer. But then, we're talking about Fox viewers so....

looking after a 9 year old lad has been an eye opener, he'd happily spend all day watching inane videos of families opening presents on you tube or 'what happens at 3am when you phone 666' if I let him, mind numbing rubbish and pretty much designed to make kids watching it feel like their lives are useless as they don't have the latest toy.

But for many Youtuber creators, views = livelihood. So if youtube is systematically burying your videos, you are losing out on real money.
