I'm not panicking yet. Still two seasons away from UFA. Honestly I would have been more surprised if he did sign than if he didn't.

The problem with this is if college players start making that a trend they are going to find themselves being passed up in the draft all the time. As soon as that becomes something that happens with more frequency teams are going to not even look at drafting college players but just wait on them until they finish school.

The Fox paranoia will likely become unbearable around here.

Trade him in a package for a forward. With Valimaki, Andersson and Kylington on the depth chart there is no need for him.

I would imagine Fox could get the Flames a solid forward prospect.

Said it before and I'll say it again. He's going four years to one shot his degree. Whether he signs with the Flames or not after his four years, I have no idea. Because right now I don't think Fox even knows.

After his senior year isn't it possible for the Flames to burn an ELC year, something he wouldn't get if he went UFA?
That, plus familiarity with the club from prospects camp and the fact the money is the same everywhere seems to me like it makes signing here the logical choice, especially if the Flames have traded a DMan or two between now and then.

LOTS can happen with the flames the next 2 years. There very well may be more spots for him after the next two off seasons. Hickey left a bad taste in my mouth tho

As someone who just posted a possibility of this being a turning point (albeit a slightly negative take) in what we do with Fox as an asset backed up with reason, your blanket, drive by remark is quite annoying and it's this style of post that takes away from discourse.
And I don't necessarily mean the intent of what you're saying but how you're saying it. It's not quality, you're preaching quality.
The worst thing on this site imo is these exact types of drive by's, it's meant to take a "side" of a debate and dismiss everyone on it as silly. Whether intended or not that is exactly what you are doing. It takes away from the quality which you pleaded for.
Just pick individual posts and respond with reason if you think you're reading something silly, what you did just gets backs up and takes away from the site.

That's a rather sanctimonious post to apply to what was clearly an attempt at humor.
I post plenty of quality posts around here, but not everything I write needs to be gold. I'm also allowed to occasionally joke around.
So, perhaps you shouldn't get so worked up by my post. The quality of discussion is just fine. I'm sure it will survive my "drive by" as you completely mischaracterized it. I didn't single anyone out, just observed the general mood of the board on this topic and made a joke about it. I don't think anyone was hurt terribly by what I said.
And yes, I think anyone who panics at this point is being incredibly silly.

Yes. A lot of things can happen in two years.
Even without burning a year (which isn't always to the player's benefit), by signing with the Flames: He could get AHL games in after his senior season ends; he'd be able to attend the Flames' rookie camp that July; and he'd be going to a team that has presumably planning to make a spot for him for the last four years.
If you wait until August, you might find that all the musical chairs are gone and you're sitting on the floor.

Everyone saying it's ridiculous to start discussing the possibility that Fox intends to finish His degree and test UFA reminds me of everyone saying how ridiculous it was to discuss firing Gully earlier to save the season and saying the Flames were poised to break out.
I would say right now it's a 50/50 shot at best that we sign him.. He will be 1 year away from UFA and getting his degree. Also if he intended to go pro and not finish His degree why not do it now? What's different next summer.

Or it’s reminicient of the vast majority of situations where fans freak out over college UFAs leaving for no reason.
Remember when Johnny Gaudreau didn’t sign before his third year and then..: oh right, he signed with the Flames.
50/50 is what the chance starts reaching once the player goes back for their fourth year. Going back for a third is not uncommon.

Gaudreau wasn't going to Harvard.
Don't get me wrong I hope he signs and maybe he has all intentions to. But let's be honest here. He will have 3 years done at HARVARD and 1 to go.

On the bright side, he's taking a bunch of economics courses so he should realize he can max out his career earning potential by signing here soon and finishing his degree when he's done his NHL career!

He can also just wait an extra year, get a Harvard degree and then make a ton of money anyway.

Your comment was horrific, insulting and fear inducing. CP, nay LIFE will never be the same. I'm guessing Fox will find out about this comment and it'll be the reason he doesn't sign with the Flames. Your comment and this day will forever be a remembered for the tragedy of 03/22/2018.
Lest we forget.
As long as a relationship between Fox and the team exist, the door is open for the future. He's not signing this year, support him, follow him and move on
