I apologize guys for turning on the game. Lately everytime I turn the game on and we are leading or tied. After I start watching, quickly the opposing team scores and either ties it up, or takes the lead. I'll refrain from turning on the game for the rest of the night. I feel guilty as hell and hope you all accept my apologies.

Sad thing is that's true. Sigh...story of the season. We're so leaky allowing bad goals or ten bell chances and allowing games to unravel in a matter of minutes.

How are Hamonic’s giveaway and Hamilton’s lackadaisical play on coaching?
|
Those are not coaching, how about not calling a timeout to discuss set play with a 5 on 3 PP? If they score one (1) pp goal in that 5on3, it could be a different game, you know.
How about not pulling a goalie for letting in...no, keep letting in goals? And clearly he is not in this game?

Because when it's clear that a player is not "going" you should limit their role. But the spreadsheet prepared before the game doesn't allow for any in game changes, so goalies won't be pulled, minutes won't be limited. And above all else the PP will never even try a one-timer...especially for a 5 on 3.

How good is Johnny Gaudreau though? I just watched his goal, and it was pretty insane!

The bad news, we're going to lose.
The good news? Marble slab is on skip the dishes, so I can at least enjoy some ice cream while I cry.

It's true that there is importance in the process over large sample sizes. But in a small sample size you have to do whatever it takes and smith should have been pulled after that third goal.
Coaches like Scotty Bowman, Joel Quenneville, Mike Sullivan, Peter Laviollette and Jon Cooper do squeeze every last ounce out their teams during a game and can manage a game at that micro level. Closest we ever had to that was Bob Hartley and we never really saw what he could do with defensemen that could skate and move the puck since we saddled him with Russell, Jokipakka, Engelland, Wideman, etc.
Coaches like Mike Babcock, Glen Gulutzan, Barry Trotz, Brent Sutter, are so obsessed with the macro level big picture - which is important - that their teams will always underperform, especially in big games.

I like our d men but hate the fact they can be so inconsistent with their defensive coverage. One night they look great and the next the focus is gone.

Flames were playing well and went up 3-2 and then Smith let a shot in from the boards followed by a goal he was completely out of position on.
The fifth goal was on him completely failing to track the puck, he had no idea where it was.
They have 20 minutes to get it back or their season is toast, hopefully they understand this.

It’s below average. But not as bad as our bottom six in terms of what is the biggest problem

The standing still on that 5 on 3 was cringy. They could've broken SJs spirit there.
We deserve better coaching.
