I would think having the oldest arena in the league might be a hindrance to obtaining a high quality coach ( Quinvelle, AV, etc). Don't coaches spend most of their days at the arena during the season? I actually have no idea about this.

Mike Babcock coached in Joe Louis in Detroit forever.
Coaches like winning and organizational support. Some may also factor nostalgia such as original 6, but a brand new areana is probably low on the list.
I don’t see any top teir coach running to Edmonton on arena for example.

Sutter won two cups in LA. That team was like the Flames prior to Sutter getting hired; good young roster that was under achieving.

LA was already 100 point team when Sutter took over. They had to go on a 12-2 run or something to finish the season in the first year they won the cup just to make it in. Then they added players like Jeff Carter and Marion Gaborik. The Flames haven’t been that level of team yet and they added Players like Brouwer, Shore and Hamonic. The teams are hardly that comparable and Sutter did well in the Playiffs but really had no effect on the teams regular season records. Even in the season where Murray was fired and Sutter took over, the “underachieving season”, it was the players that finally were able to finish their chances in the last month that pushed the team into the playoffs. Sutter’s January and February were no better than Murray.
I’m not trying to say a coach change won’t improve the team, it probably will, I don’t think GG has the room anymore and a coach change is a spark. But the narrative that Sutter turned an underachieving team into a powerrhouse is overstated and might be worth a few extra points in the standing. But he is also going to take 10-20% of the points off the star players and is as boring as most hockey gets.

What a serious disappointment of a season.

Well, on the plus side, the Flames have become more consistent lately. Our road game now resembles our home game.

One of the lowest scoring teams in the league last year and added no scoring: fans think contender.
This team was so good at scoring goals they gifted a middle six roster spot to a 45 year old. Signed Tanner Glass off a PTO (Because hey, beats playing Lomberg).
Explain to me how this is a good team again? I really don't see it.
Treliving honeymoon over. Selling all your draft picks to scrape into 11th place is not a winning strategy.
Just imagine this season with a Gaudreau, Monahan or Tkachuk injury.
This is an embarrassing roster.
|
Fake news. Check your facts.
Flames were 15th in the league in scoring last season, despite an injury to Monahan and holdout by Gaudreau. Without losing anything off the roster, Flames add another top 4 defenseman, a #5 who was good enough to play at #4 last season, and a legitimate #1 goaltender. So, yeah, fans legitimately expect more than a borderline playoff team. Instead, a better roster shows no more consistency and is on its way to putting up worse results.

There are a lot of people basing GG for his lack of experience but people are also of the opinion the Quenville won't come to Calgary, along with any other experienced coach, so who do you replace GG with??
Its fine advocatng getting rid of GG but you have to have a replacement, don't like a coach with a lack of experience and no experienced coach wants to come to Calgary, so who do you choose next??

Its impossible to say, you're asking us to come to conclusions based on information that we dont have.
