I have more faith in Gillies honestly. the size, the ice cold demeanor akin to that of Kipper, his athleticism has even been full on display yet either. only flashes.

Difference of opinions I guess, I have no faith in Gillies. When he was drafted all I read and heard was how good he was supposed to be, he's big and athletic. First time I got to watch him was in the World Juniors and he wasn't good at all. He seems to fall under the weight of expectations. I know this is a hard situation for him, but hey, he's 24 so he's gotta be ready sometime. I've read some people talk about his reflexes, but to me they're terrible. That long shot "fluke" against Colorado should never have happened. Just get your body in front of the shot. I get it happens maybe once or twice in a career, so maybe he was unfortunate and it happened on his second start. Also, he has a very, very hard time tracking the puck, and that forces him into making desperate saves, which make it look like he has good reflexes, when good positioning and awareness would allow for a routine comfortable save. He struggled with another long shot tonight -- the first shot of the game if I remember right. His stats that someone posted before the game surprised me as I didn't think they were that good, but that's a 3 game sample size. Much like the rest of the team this year, he hasn't passed the eye test (for me). And that first goal, while inexcusable that the players let a guy be first to the puck, shouldn't have happened either. Either hold onto it in the first place, or cover it up. He lost the puck and it dropped straight in front of him, and by the time he noticed it was too late.
I am most disappointed in Rittich though, I really thought he was going to run with this opportunity, and he hasn't, which has forced us into using Gillies. Really unfortunate neither goalie wanted to take the opportunity and run with it.
I don't mean to pile on the goalies, because the whole team hasn't helped them out. I don't even think they were terrible tonight, sometimes losses like these just happen. The problem is they were dog#### so many other nights earlier in the season (the whole season really) that now they're forced to play desperate hockey, and the way the game is, sometimes you lose the ones where you play good (i.e. a hot goalie). Curtis Lazar said something that really bugged me in a video segment they did, he said "we want to get hot at the right time". F that. You play every game to win, whether it's the first or last. The Flames thought they could just turn it on when they really needed to, now look where they are.

With 16 games or whatever is remaining, there's no point in bringing in someone who isn't going to be the solution for the team next season. The interim coach would have no effect on the team culture or motivation for next season.
How many teams have fired a coach that they weren't going to bring back with 20 games remaining? It just doesn't happen, because there's no point. (Save for one time apparently with only two games or so left)

When do the rosters expand? I'd watch the youngsters in the A play to see what we have cause this group sucks.
I would legitimately dump all of the following players right now or seriously rework their roles.
Stajan
Brouwer
Glass
Brodie
Bartowski
Hathaway
Let the kids play and see what we have for next year. How many more losses can we sustain before we are done, 2 or 3 more?
Hell, dump the coach as well as I see him as the biggest problem and let Huska see what he can do. Lots of teams run with an interim coach. Maybe he'd try something different with that sad lineup other than juggling barely NHL players in and out of the lineup.

I hope Treliving's ass is under the gun to along with GG. I want to see some progression here. We are just spinning our wheels until Johnnys contract runs out and he goes to Philly.

Sutter is still making north of 3 million a season from the Kings, and it runs through next season.
He is not going to give up that cash just to be interim.

Doesn't he get paid regardless? I agree Sutter is not coming for 18 games lol.

Sure, now you're seeing the roster implode and not have top quality goaltending to bail them out, but for the most part this roster has shown to be very good this year. They just need decent goaltending and a coaching staff that can help them navigate tough rough patches. But the coaching staff has list the room months ago.

OK, but explain best ever seasons by almost all the Flames top players in this context?
The problem, to me, has become obvious that the Flames only have 2 NHL caliber forward lines. And most of the forward core is young.
Surrounding them with talent would have done much more than trying to surround them with 'veteran leadership'. That is on Treliving.

Flames needed the goalies to be lights out the last three games and they let in 1 or 2 goals in, at bad times, in each of those games. Sure, they're young and not ready, and Rittich may have gotten handled with kid gloves as a backup to Smith because he's failed miserably with the pressure on him.
With no confidence in coaching the rest of the team has wilted in these losses and it looks ugly.
Sooner the coach is gone, even before the end of the season, the better. I don't think there needs to be a ton.of roster change, just a coaching staff that can manage the roster and push players when needing to be pushed. A coaching staff that commands respect because they've demonstrated results in this league.

I don't believe so - unless he had that in his contract. It is usually not AFAIK, but perhaps I am wrong.

Lol. Just stop already. It's called ice time management. It's one thing to figure out who is on and who is not in any given game but managing your players ice time is coaching 101.

We sure pissed away a career JG year. And that’s on the coaches and management. How many more years do we have him? Four? And the last year doesn’t count as he will be a UFA.
