As we were discussing in the GT, I would trade both Brodie and Hamilton, and have our defensive prospects make the jump. Don't think that the D core could do much worse as long as goaltending is competent. If the offense, and more importantly the style of play is more up tempo and attacking next season, could actually do better.

Treliving has turned this into a slow forward group. Nothing on the farm to change this.

Gulutzan system/tactics have not allowed this team to take a step. They both should be held accountable

Not surprisingly, those odd man chances were after he let in a soft 1st goal and below average second goal.

The team then has zero confidence in that he's going to make the next save and starts to panic and press and get out of the weak structure and confidence they did have.

The timing of the very average goals against, late in the first in a weak fake against Gillies in Dallas turned the game around, along with him using the rim around on the second goal, are killer, as they were tonight.

Rittich getting beaten cleanly twice after the Flames up 2-0. Again, it then had the rest of the team worried about every next half chance COL had, a feeling they don't have with Smith bailing them out and making the average and above average saves night in and night out. Colorado had full confidence as the Flames get out of sorts trying not to force their goalie to make saves. And then tonight, they fall apart after the missed Backlund chance turns into a so so goal.against Gillies, and that was thst.

With no confidence in the coach to do or say any thing, the team drifts off but it sttarts these last games with below average goals going in.

Moral of the story? You can't judge a hockey team with a spreadsheet.
I hate this recent obsession in pro sports with advanced stats so much. Thanks for sucking the fun out of sports, Billy Beane.

When you really think about the price paid for Hamonic you're talking a potential cornerstone player in the top 15, and 2 solid players like an Andersson or Fox, and mind you this is a deep draft so who knows what lies in that 2nd round. I love Hamonic, but we got absolutely fleeced on this trade and Trelivings decisions in terms of this trade, the Brouwer signing and the Gulutzan hiring among others make this guy look a lot less competent than we thought.

This team had all they hype the 09-10 Flames did when they got Bouwmeester. "Best D on paper" "Watch out for the Flames" Exact same season pretty much as the 17-18 Flames.

Don't trade anyone until Gulatzan is gone. Give a real coach a chance to work with these players first before we make more Greg Gilbert mistakes.

Reminds me of the old joke.
I had two tickets to a Flames game on the dashboard of my car. Someone smashed my windshield and left two more.

Vegas fans enjoying a season from the Golden Knights that the Calgary Flames haven't replicated in 25 years.

I don't see it happening.

Silver lining tonight...

Didn't allow an empty net goal against.

Some players were ok tonight - I mean, you have to work to put up those many shots.

Problem is that too few of them were actually really dangerous. Flames are great at generating low percentage shots that goalies see a mile away.

Not much to be happy with tonight. This was a great opportunity to keep pace with the rest of the conference that is fighting for a playoff spot, but instead they not only couldn't generate enough offensively, they couldn't defend either.

They aren't just shooting themselves in the foot in this playoff race losing these winnable games. Tonight, it feels like they just shot their foot right off. Colorado is in the last wildcard spot up by two points, and has two games in hand. Every single team higher in the standings has games in hand on the Flames.

Tough game up next against the Pens, then two 'easy' games against the Sabres and Sens. Islanders after that, then the Oilers followed up with the Sharks.

That's not a horrible schedule, but so was this last segment of games and they lost 3 in a row.

Yes it does. The sooner you get the stink of the head coach out of the organization the better. Plus the team might actually become fun to watch.

Let Gio do it. Go full player/coach.

Personally I would like to see what this team looks like without a coach behind the bench. Can't be any worse than what we have now.
