That's pretty bloody outstanding. It's as if having one Troy Brouwer wasn't enough, we needed to go out and get Troy Brouwer XL.

Thought the 3rd period was a damn strong period for the Flames. It gave me faith for the team down the stretch...but if Stewart starts the next game on the Monahan or Backlund line...

Therein lies the issue. Limited depth production cuts down the boost from the improved goaltending to where we're virtually the same.

Hopefully Shore can at least help the 4th line to be reliable defensively. And maybe Versteeg can sub in for Hathaway and score the odd goal.
Right.... So why the big contract handed out to Backlund? Appears to be a continuation of the miscalculation unfortunately.

It is hardly unheard of.
The argument isn't that you have to load up your top line with your best forwards. A complimentary player with 2 stars makes sense when it's the right complimentary player, like Ferland. What doesn't make sense is throwing any old player with 2 stars and expecting it to work out. It's not the philosophy in general we have a problem with - it's Stewart specifically.

A team with a grand total of 3 forwards who can finish strapped a waiver-wire boat anchor to 2 of them, and lo and behold they get shutout.

Lose the special teams battle.

Lose the goaltending battle.

Lose the game.

I agree Ferland should be on the top line. But with him out the pickings are slim for choices.
it was worth trying and in the third they reverted back.
But I don't see that one change in the line up to be the reason they lost.

The blatant and intentional head shot on Brouwer was worse. Much worse. It's almost as if the guy saw Brouwers cage and jumped at it with a forearm.

Can't believe nobody filled Pitlick in.

That 1st line was significantly better in the 3rd. They dominated in the 3rd, after being dominated in the first 2 periods. That 1st line is also the only line that can consistently generate.

Sure, it wasn't the only reason - we know Bishop was huge - but to dismiss it is a mistake. You can't choose to ignore what works and what doesn't and expect to succeed.

Get Hoffman at the Draft. Hire Sutter, and I'll wholeheartedly commit for next season.

And Bishop uses his big frame and sits back in the net.

Gillies, same size, instead lunged forward in semi panic on the pass across, and Seguin simply put it over his falling body.

0/7 on the PP, 2 of which was basically a full 2 minute 5 on 3 and no goals. If we won this game, would everyone still be complaining about Stewart? It's one game, on a new team. This game was lost on specialty teams, and a good goalie for Dallas.
