They won their last two games before this one outscoring the opponents 10-3.

I'm one of the most negative people on this entire board honestly, but they met a hot goalie tonight. Accept it and move on.

Gulutzan is straight up a bizarre coach.
A lot of coaches now go with pairs and then a complimentary player who otherwise wouldn't be playing that high up in the line up.
It is hardly unheard of.

Stewart finished the night -8 in shot attempts while every other forward was at least even. Gaudreau and Monahan were -10 through 40 then +10 in the 3rd playing with Bennett to finish even.

If this is indicative of Stewart's game then he's pretty much who Wild fans said he is: ok in transition but useless in his own zone and incapable of playing the cycle game in the offensive zone.

Thought Jankowski looked pretty good with and without Bennett. PP looked decent enough - if that Hamilton crossbar goes in it's a totally different game.

IMO at this point we just have to accept we're not getting 3 lines of scoring and run Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik at least until Ferland comes back. We can't afford to have our top line struggling like they were today.

he was OKAY...hard to blame the goalie when you don't score , both goals were kinda his fault though

Dallas has 7 high danger chances

The guy at the other end was far better

Bishop was unreal tonight. 1st 2nd and 3rd star for him. PP had chances but couldn't beat a hot goalie. Back at it tomorrow night. Gaudreau looked like he was handling a grenade on his stick all night.

Generally I agree, but I also don't feel like they can ride the two youngsters to the post-season.
Smitty has been their MVP. They need him.

Still hasn't skated. In an interview on the Fan Gillies described his injury as gruesome, Steinburg and Loubardias thought it was an odd comment, like he knew more. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that he's returning soon.

Yeah, he looked pretty much as expected, that's not good.

Posted this in the GT by accident.

Too little depth scoring this season. Guys like Frolik, Backlund, and Bennett aren't finding the net with any consistency.

Not even just now. Who played with Gretzky and Kurri? Gillies played with Bossy and Trottier.

Guy hit him legally and then went to the bench...what did you want? Somebody to jump on the Dallas bench and start throwing hay makers?

Game was still in the balance

It's also really difficult to get elite skill outside of the draft, you need lots of draft picks to give you a chance to get it.

well, the primary deficiency in this team is still lack of scoring... everyone has said it. Bennett, sadly, hasn't developed the way that people had hoped for.

so you either draft, trade or sign for it...

imo they should be increasing the drafting of skilled players, because the the defensive ledger is pretty stocked whereas the offensive side is not

side note: man, we need to get lucky with an Eric Staal type UFA signing... guy has found the fountain of youth in minny

Frolik and Backlund's production took a hit from last season. Management banking on them continuing at that rate was their biggest miscalculation about this season.

Bottom 6 produce only once in a blue moon.

Therein lies the issue. Limited depth production cuts down the boost from the improved goaltending to where we're virtually the same.

Hopefully Shore can at least help the 4th line to be reliable defensively. And maybe Versteeg can sub in for Hathaway and score the odd goal. Without the first line going into beast mode again, I don't know if it'll be enough to get us in.

Bit hard on what wasn't really even a fake and missed the rim around and his 6'6 frame gets beaten high 5 seconds later.

Smith plays, neither of those go in. It was a bad game from Gillies.
