I'd take their 50th worst player/contract who's playing in the minors as an add on. If they want a pick, I doubt we have any to deal at this point.

Hathaway can go back down, I dig the edge he brings, but not for the third line. Plus hes a free asset from the farm.

If he keeps that up I bet someone gives him a shot. He'd have to clear waivers, right?

When he plays like he cares he can be a very good hockey player. Too bad that doesn't happen very often.

I don't think many players with term left in their deals will be getting traded at deadline. After Duchene and Hamonic trades, its looking like GM's will wait it out a lot longer to see if they can hit a home run.

Does TOR make a “move” today? Broad definition on move. IIRC, Soshnikov’s AHL stint now over. Need roster spot. Could demote Dermott/Kapanen but big game vs. TB tonite, not optimal. Trade Sosh? Martin? Leivo? Put someone on IR? Some other Lou Lamoriello/Brandon Pridham sorcery?
|
The move that they are doing today is keeping Soshnikov on IR.

lol, ya I just saw that. It's only temporary though, they'll have to do something soon.

I think the ask will vary. If you put Bennett out there, that probably changes a sellers approach. A former 4th overall pick probably carries more value than a generic first round pick as it is a known quantity and not a lottery ticket. To a degree, putting Bennett out there puts Treliving in the drivers seat in terms of ask as teams have shown interest before (believe Bergevin was one of them).

quality of opponents and importance of games matter a lot. remember when Tanner Glass "earned" a spot on the Flames starting lineup because he was supposedly some kind of preseason beast against rookies, minor leaguers, and veterans playing quarter speed in meaningless scrimmages?

Not if the known quality isn't that good.
Yakupov got traded for a third rounder after his 21 year old season when he put up 23 points in 60 games.
Bennett is 21 with 19 points in 56 games...

Yup.
Montreal is absolutely starving for a C. IF Bergevin thinks he can get Sam to be a #1 C moving forward, then I can see him giving up a Galchenyk or Pacioretty type player.
I don't think the time to trade Sam is now necessarily, as he still could turn it around. However, if you can find another GM that is willing to give you something you need/want/can afford, then you have to listen for sure.

If I remember the rules correctly: - He would need to clear waivers before he could join a team
- He would also need to sign with an NHL team prior to the trade deadline (which is the day after the Gold Medal game) if he wanted to play in the playoffs
- He would need to have an out clause in his contract in Sweden for it to even be possible

Any interest in Duclair for the Bennett line? Watching the Flames play the Hawks last week I noticed him a bit in a good way. Hawks are most likely to sell and he probably comes in real cheap.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Duclair
Hathaway - Stajan - Brouwer

Chicago just traded for Duclair, and likely see him as a piece going forward.

Ya wasn't sure if he is part of the future going forward or they move him for a prospect/pick.

Bennett is not Yakupov. Not even close. From the moment he showed up in Edmonton, Yakupov showed that he had no hockey IQ, and no desire to be coached.
Bennett has been bad with the stupid penalties so far, but most people assume he will figure things out. He has shown all kinds of talent (periodically), and has been fantastic in the playoffs twice.
He is no where near Yakupov territory and I am getting really tired of the comparison.
Bennett is way more comparable to Schenn than he is to Yakupov.

So Soshnikov can do a conditioning stint in the AHL but not be healthy enough to play in the NHL?? That rule needs to change.

Basically there have been increased scouting between the teams including Bergevin himself at the Rangers/Flames game. Says the rumored players of Flames interest are Pacioretty or Galchenyuk, and that Habs are interested in Bennett, Janko, Fox, but primarily Janko. They also say there was something in play back in December and this could be talks heating back up.
Is there something with the Habs and those players (from both teams) that people would want to see here?
|
I would rather have Jankowski than Galchenyuk so no. Something around Bennett + for Gallagher would intrigue me. Gallagher is the only Hab I am interested in.

If you could get Galchenyuk for Fox, I feel that's a good trade .
