I don't feel positive about this game because of the way they lost. But the season is far from lost.

For sure the season isnt lost but it sure feels like the team is crumbling. That was terrible how they lost. They need to bounce back in a very serious way now.

One power goal per game and they’re on a 12 game winning streak. How can Cameron be allowed to work for this team? Two years of this pathetic, impotent power play and the man still has a job? Unreal. I’m a schmuck that sells stuff for a living and if I performed the way he has for the past two years they’d have replaced me long ago.

I've tried to remain fairly optimistic through out this entire year but I think this was my breaking point.
Something needs to change. We have too many skilled players and unreal goaltending to accept results like this. Enough is enough.

That's cool. I'm thinking this loss paired with the Edmonton loss is the kind of mentally damaging thing akin to what the Flames did to Vancouver that one year under Hartley. The Flames have unravelled a fair bit these past now 5 games. I'm just saying the mentality of this team from coach down is back patting and giving out participation ribbons. It's just not good enough.

It's not all doom and gloom, still right there for playoff contention, but seriously something has to change in the remaining stretch. Special teams are pretty correctable things, what are you doing up there, Brad?

Not saying Frolik is blameless as that was stupid but even then that should have been a freeze or a clear to the corner.
Plenty of stupidity to go around, including the inability of this coach to feel the game and realize his team is rattled.
|
Smith should be taking his share of heat for that odd decision. Obviously it's a terrible play by Frolik to put him in that position, but that was an easy play to just get down and cover the puck.
Looking at it again, it seems like Smith was just trying to do too much with the puck and boot a big rebound out to clear pressure and transition the other way. Baffling decision with such little time left and Haula right there.

Ya I got tied up and couldnt watch. Flipped to CP for the recap and read 3 page of WTF!?!?. Checked score 4-2, think its not bad, then check box score.
Then pat self on back for avoiding breaking something in the house. Well done me.

Oh man, I agree - completely.
My argument is that you can't expect to win 2-1 hockey games on any given night. This is a "3-2" league, at minimum.
I know the mistake is unforgivable, and it can't happen. The circumstance, with how the team played, should not have been what it was. The system demands perfection. This team plays with slim margins by design.

I honestly think Hamonic has been good lately but why did we need to use those picks on another Dman when this team has a clear gaping hole at RW and in need of a player who can use a one timer on the PP.

A pp goal, and it's a different game.
That's 5 games in a row where that can be said.
There is no way this team goes anywhere this season with their abysmal special teams. I don't care what the %s say. This team always gives up a timely pk goal and have a surefire '0 for...' pp unit.
Sad thing is I feel like i don't even really care no more. Maybe it's all these stupid breaks in the schedule , this inconsistent team that is under performing expectations of a team that hands out 1st/2nd round picks, or this stupid arena conflict.
Another year and the only moral victory will be just making the playoffs and getting knocked in the first round. Outside of 2 years, that's the life of a flames fan for almost 30 years now. I really wonder what the hell is wrong with me for being so loyal to such a garbage product for so long... Ugh the life of a sports fan.

Smith as well, under two minutes to go, puck in your own zone - Smith has to be ready for that, so he doesn't have to kick it right out front. Pounce on it, get a faceoff.

How about sending Frolik out right after?
How about the team not playing well after breaks?
How about the awful powerplay?
How about the lack of time out?
Gulutzan is largely to blame, at least from our perspective IMO

There it is.... says the guys were fresh which is why he leaves frolik on the ice while froliks head is hanging when the puck is dropped.... common just own a fraction of it.
