Too much? Seems fair to me. Flames get their sniper (cost controlled) and Ottawa gets a blue chip goalie prospect and the pick they'll no doubt want
|
No more trading picks. But that would be a deal I would make if the Flames had the 2018 1st rounder.

You would think fans of a team that watched Backlund take time to develop would understand patience but just like many wanted to run him out of town early the same thing is happening with Bennett. Thankfully the Flames organization will do no such thing because their pro personnel are still very high on Bennett's skillset unlike a bunch of armchair amateurs that expect every player to instantly be a star and have no comprehension that players develop at different time periods. Some like Monahan walk right in and look high level, others like Pavel Datsyuk for example did not become a superstar the minute they started playing pro hockey. Bennett has an absolutely great package, he is physical, skates well, has a very good shot, good agility, and a good motor. His development road will be a player that will take a bit more time but he will put it together. Those same people who want to include him in a trade for Hoffman are the same posters that if that happened would bitching we got a 25G aging winger for a gritty 70 point centre 4 years from now. Saying he has a "Yakupovian trajectory" is just ridiculous, one is a physical player who brings more than just pure finesse like the other and even if he never becomes a top line C will still be a gritty two way C.

I think the team is pretty realistic in that his ceiling is of a 3rd line player but again he's 22 years old and has had some pretty good games on the 4th line. Like a lot of forwards on this team he has had plenty of scoring chances of late and simply no finish. I will take that over paying for a veteran player like Tanner Glass to do the same job with zero upside. Good teams need to fill the bottom six with guys like Lazar.

Okay, but do you think Lazar has a Yakupovian Trajectory?
Yes or No? Please answer.

And todays Bennett guys could be mad in 4 years when he keeps getting worse and we didn’t trade him when he had a little value. That point can go both ways. The problem with Bennett isnt that he isnt a big producer yet, its that every year he’s regressing. If he was showing any kind of progress then I’d agree with you but he absolutely is not.
That said, again, I dont think he gets traded at this point simply because his value is so low. Better off hoping a light turns on than getting a minimal return.

Please tell me you don't think Bennett is going to be come a 70 point player. Backlund, Datsyuk did not go in the Top 4 in there draft class. People have certain expectations for players that go that high. If the Flames could redo that draft they probably go with Nylander or Ehlers.

Bennett might turn out to be an amazing player in the future, I'd still trade him in the right deal. I don't know if I'd give Bennett up for Hoffman, I'd go more for Brodie+ for Hoffman but if we could get a higher caliber guy like Stone or another good young player, I would trade him because BT has made it clear that they are going for it in the next couple of years. The Flames need good players now if they want to make any kind of noise.
Every player on this team should be tradeable, as much as I like a lot of them I would trade them all if it made the team better. If the sens made Stone available would you not give up Bennett (as part of the deal) for him? If the Isles were going to trade Tavares and he would agree to an extension, wouldn't you trade Bennett (as part of the package) for him? I don't think Bennett is garbage and he still might turn out to be amazing but the team needs help now. I don't think they should just give him away but they should be open to trading him.

I'm not sure what that is nor how their paths cross. One was first overall pick that has busted as a skilled player but remains on an NHL roster playing a role for a team in contention for the playoffs. The other a later 1st round pick that was wasn't nearly as offensively hyped and is also playing a role on a team in contention for the playoffs.

Lazar is a bottom 6 forward. If you want to call that Yakupovian Trajectory go ahead. Don't know what people were expecting from Lazar.

Personally I’d rather see Brodie in a trade for someone better than Hoffman. I don’t think his value is as eroded as some think here. I don’t think we’re a better team after that deal so I would say no.

Just because a player goes high in his draft class doesn’t mean he can’t be a late bloomer.
I honestly would be more willing to trade Bennett if he didn’t have the nasty edge to his game.
I think he and Janko should be broken up right now you can see both have lost their confidence.

Mitch Marner is on pace to score 11 goals this season (less than Yakupov). Maybe it's more fair to ask if Marner has a Yakupovian Trajectory.

Their style of game is kinda remotely similar because both guys can skate like the wind and can shoot the puck albeit not very accurately.
Both guys can also get prime offensive chances because of their speed, but neither is good at finishing (though Yak can at least sometimes score).

As I said before maybe you should ask if Marner's on that trajectory.

To be better than a busted Yakupov and to have scored at least a goal by now.
Is that too much to ask? I mean, seriously, Yak is no good.

If Treleving does make any trades, he needs to bring in players that hate to lose.
The Flames are in short supply of those kind of players.

personally I'd like to trade Brodie for Barzal or Kucherov but it's not gonna happen. If Brodie could get a better player it would be good but I just can't see his value being that high.
