Same here.
He also doesn't seem to be caught up in the big business belief like Dinning. I hope Morton wins.

Heck, proposing to opt out of the CPP is reason enough to vote for him. I curse the CPP every two weeks; I get really angry when I think about what a poor return of investment it really is. It is awful.
Looking at the rest of his platform, it seems he also advocates more provincial power, and I am all for that too.
|
Oh man do I agree with you on the CPP. What a waste of fricken money. We could have double the return with half the investment if we went on our own.

Wasn't Morton the one on Global news tonight caught giving free memberships to students?
Global news also had students approach Dinning and Oberg, but they (well, their campaign headquarters) both refused to give away memberships.
It'll probably be on again tonight on the late news.

Thanks for chirping in with that.
I want Morton to win. He's got more of a renegade character to him that's nice for a premier to have--just like Ralph. He is quite right wing and will likely prove to be moreso if he get's in which could get interesting.

I wouldn't call it caught. Atleast I don't think that was the angle Global was showing it for.
It was just some students who thought they couldn't afford $5 and wanted to see if they could get a free membership.
They weren't trying to say Mortons headquarters were doing something they shouldn't.

Yup. I'm still trying to decide between Morton and Dinning. As of right now, I'm leaning toward Morton. I think he's platform is strong, especially his emphasis on the province's power. I definitely believe he could help further Alberta, while also not forgetting about the industries that have helped Alberta in the past.

Sure they were. They started the story by saying how all candidates agreed not to give away memberships and mentioned "buying votes" a number of times.
Now I'm not sure they actually proved much - they were approached as opposed to going out and soliciting votes by buying memberships. But that said, the 2 other candidates refused to give free memberships, even when approached.

OK, I probobly missed that. I kind of had it on in the background and wasn't watching it too intently. I didn't hear it that way, but you're probobly right.
My bad.

Ted Morton will further alienate Alberta from the rest of the country....if you though that Albertan's were seen as right wing cowboys now, just wait till he gets in power.

I don't really care if other people in the rest of the country see us as right wing. I think it is more important to have a Premier who will ensure that Alberta gets more rights, such as replacing the CPP with an Alberta Pension Plan.

Ted Morton is too right wing for a lot of Conservatives, and I think would cause a lot of disention in the party. Electing Morton as leader of the PC's would be a boon to the Liberals.

I take issue with that theory. First of all, Morton's people didn't say "I'll only give you a membership if you vote Morton." Secondly, it's $5. A ride to the polls would sway me more as it's damn cold outside.
"Buying" a vote doesn't mean it's a vote for you...

And voting dinning will push some of the more conservative people to the Alberta Alliance... take your pick...
Anyways, does anyone know if I can vote in a different polling station than my own? I live basically on the border of two of them, and the one that I technically don't live in is much closer to my house (I have no car at the moment)

I'll be supportin' Morton too... best platform, best policy, I've met him in person and seemed genuine, and the fact that people are nervous about him makes me like him more.
Central Canada already thinks we're rednecks... wait till they have to deal with an academic one that knows the system as well or better than they do.

Believe me Ed Stelmach is the man to pick. The man had a rough life as a farmer, and tells it like it is, just like ralph klien. He never doesnt answer a question either, he always has an answer whereas the other canditates would not. For alberta, believe me, stelmach is the man. Oberg is a throwaway (klien was gonna fire him) Morton is a bum who would force seperation in the party, and dinning is a pansy. Simple as that.

Any thoughts on Hancock? I haven't voted yet, and for one of the rare times in my life I'm having trouble making up my mind. I've met Hancock many times and he is an affable, straight-forward, intelligent guy. Somehow, I just can't see him as premier though.
I have the same feelings about Stelmach. Too nice, may have trouble swimming with the sharks.
