sure, but with the NHL not participating, i had no idea where they were going to source players from...
in other years, you were kinda expecting a couple of flames players, this years was a complete black hole imo
before the lineup was announced, outside of a couple of the Jr players, i don't think anyone could have picked the lineup... guys like Iggy, St.Louis, JBow were pretty much locks months in advance.

I'm excited for this tournament.
It will be a more exciting tournament than best on best. Canada rolled every team in the last 3 best on best tournaments. Best on Best is great to see and watch Canada dominate but Russia wasn't great hockey. It was flawless boring careful hockey.
This team will have to fight, this team is not the favourite, this team calls back to 92 and 94 when we didn't know how good we were.
I would have preferred best on best but like the rest of the Olympics slap that logo on the jersey and sign me up to watch be it ping pong or Euro league level players.

Isn't there already a thread discussing the NHL not participating? Can we just talk about the tourney and the team we have in here? It's not like you guys are coming up with any new revealing information in this rehashed discussion.
Nice to see Howden in there. He was an exciting player when we had him in Jr.

all jokes aside, for the guys that have worked over in Europe for years, this is likely a dream come true for them and I hope they win

I say Olympics every 4 years, staggered with World Cup every 4 years. A big tournament every 2 years. In that format, I don't mind a bit more gimmick like team Europe or Team Kid North America in the World Cup.
One thing both need is long term stability, not being used as some bargaining chip all the time. Come up with a permanent plan.

That's asking a lot of players especially if they make deep Stanley Cup runs or go to the Worlds. The NHL has also expressed and interest in a Ryder Cup style event so that's more hockey.

I'm pulling for Kozun in particular. Skilled kid who had size working against him. Drafted by the wrong team. Imagine if he'd been in the system of a team that liked speed and skill but didn't have size bias. Things might have gone differently. Then in Toronto he's behind Kessel, Panik and Clarkson.
BTW, Kozun isn't Calgary born. He was actually born in LA, but since his mom is Canadian he's a dual citizen. He moved here at age 10, and then played for the Hitmen.

BREAKING: Barys and forward Linden Vey have parted ways on mutual agreement.
26-year-old Vey is team's point-scoring leader, 3rd in KHL with 52 points after 50 GP.

It's amazing how consistently Vey has lit up leagues not quite as good as the NHL (AHL / KHL). He's clearly a good offensive player at that level. Given that's the level this tournament will be played at, he could be a difference maker.

Okay.....whats the deal? Normally teams dont just let their leading goal-scorer leave for no reason.

He might actually be heading to Stockton eventually. I believe we have him on our reserve list. We gave him a QO in the off season
