Naked swimming event coming to Calgary wave pool

I had a foreigner meet up here in Reykjavik last night, a girl from Vancouver and a few yankies, lots of Europeans, Africans, Latin Americans, etc..

Anyhow the girl from YVR says, oh Calgary, that's the people freaking out about the nudists at a pool! Everyone laughs, I cringe, and people seemed surprised saying they thought Canada was more like Europe and then the sad part comes when she rightfully says "Oh most of Canada is not like that, Calgary is in Texas north and Calgary is like Dallas, its all rednecks.."

Sadly the best I could add is well, most of Calgary is not rednecks, but yeah the Dallas and Texas comparisons are not far off if you mean we are the Canadian versions of those, but not exactly like those.

The same 20,000 righteous idiots who signed the petition because of the potential threat to children would be the very same 20,000 saying that video games are the cause of mass school shootings at the turn of the millennium, 20,000 people saying that playing D&D was cover for satanic ritual murdering of children in the late 80s and 20,000 the rock and roll music lead to corruption of youth in the 1950s.

All the same jackasses falling for the same mass hysteria under the stupid guise of protecting children.

To be fair from my brief watching of who was signing that petition it seemed a very small amount of people were actually from Calgary.

The City just set the bar that we can literally bully a group into canceling their event and making them fearful of attending.

If the event was cancelled over safety concerns due to credible threats made towards the organizers, I hope the CPS is involved in finding and charging those people who made the threats.

It sounds like threats were made to the facility, so bomb threats or shooting ht place up or something. He repeatedly says it is due to the safety of all users at the centre, not just the pool area.

There were a few news stories that said previous attempts at events like this that were cancelled resulted in successful suits by the organizer.

I’d say the “safety concerns” reasoning is the city trying to limit their exposure to a potential suit. I, for one, would love to see the city dragged to court and made to justify refusing to allow the event based off their reasoning. If the safety concerns are so severe that you refuse to allow the event to go ahead, the police should be investigating the threats that made you cancel it.

Everyone who had any objections to the event in this thread has be level headed and presented reasonable arguments and statements. Yet, they have still been attacked mostly dino7c.

You can have a nuanced opinion and not be a radical. I'm of European descent and nudity hasn't been taboo for me or my family. Visited many a beach with optional clothing. I play men's league and probably am around 15 naked adults weekly and I have no problem with it. Heck, you want to have a get together and hang out with your bros and have your schlongs out, I don't care. I raise an eyebrow when people want to actively hang out naked around naked children. If that equals pearl clutcher, well then there you go.

I’m not a fan of Crackmacs but you can’t blame this on them. They just posted the event to social media like /r/Calgary on Reddit, and because media is lazy as #### these days, they covered it like it was a big event.

I’m guessing someone posted it to a mommy blog or something because most of the petition signers were women, largely from places other than Calgary.

I find it interesting that threats were made for an event like this, but peaceful protests occurs with hate groups.

Neo-nazis and Antifa, yields counter protests with no violence occuring.
