First time I like something Gulutzan has done. I'm sick of this team falling back into bad habits, too. Hope this is a wake up call.
They showed a bit of their full potential last night finally and if they don't want this season to be an embarrassing failure that ends in early April following the moves to bring stability to the goaltending then nows the time to find another gear. This was the right time to basically kick them while they're up. Their play last night would allow them to be a threat against even the best teams in a series. They need to bottle that **** and make more of it. They out-grit a bigger, physical team for once! That's the kind of play you can build an identity from.

#Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan just unloaded on his team during practice. Three times, repeated 'We win one $%&#ing game ... '
He threw that stick pretty far. Video courtesy of Jermain Franklin. Video NSFW due to language

The video could not be released without the Flames consent . This was released for the purpose of convincing the Calgary Flame fan base that is growing impatient with "Gully" that see Gully can be the hard ass coach needed and not the incompetent staring at a monitor at his feet Muppet that a lot of fans have seen behind the bench. Fans have heard Gully has little words with the team in the locker room even after games and that isn't hearsay. That is (From his own lips).
This came across as a guy who knows he is under the axe and he knows it.
I am sure a number of the players laughed in private at the whole awkward incident.
Why would the media need consent? I don't believe that's accurate.
You're last two sentences seem like a stretch as well. Pure speculation.
Or Backlund who’s certainly been a leader on the ice for the last couple years.
Yes that "A" should be on Backlund who leads by example. If your leader leads by poor example how do they expect the rest of the team to emulate the leader?
This should have been done awhile ago; GG needs a core of leaders who support what he is trying to do in the room and on the ice, and using Bouwer and Stajan for leadership by example, this has probably hurt his and the teams cause.
Some of these changes we are seeing should have happened a lot sooner, "if they didn't already happen". This rant is the expectation we should see from preseason onward and brought back up when there is a slight dip in effort and execution if they want to raise the level of overall consistency.

It is probably not lost on GG that now he is getting an effort from some of his vets after
arrangements for call ups have been made. He should have benched certain players and kept standards and expectations in check.
I don't see this as coach desperation at all. I see it as him trying to keep the team focused after a big win, which seems to be a big problem with this squad. They played exceptionally last night, and today were apparently having fun monkeying around at practise. It would seem they needed a small reminder where they were in the standings, and what kind of focus and effort it's going to take to get them back into the race.
I have no issue at all with him doing it. Maybe it's the kick in the ass they need.

This poster's MO is to slam GG no matter what. We could sweep the playoffs and win the SC in 4 and he would be calling for Gully's head.
Really thats what you think what is the CP poll at 461-198 in favor of firing "Gully" I have 1 vote. 69.99% in favor of the Gully being toasted and is that personal or based on merit. It is based on merit and his lack of it far too many times.

A poll does not equal merit. What you claimed is completely made up and therefore has no merit.
By the same measure, most coaches also probably receive too much credit when teams do well. Not that they are dispensable or unimportant, but I tend to think that by and large guys coaching at the NHL level have gotten there because they know a hell of a lot about what they are doing. The margin of separation between coaches is razor thin.
Totally agree. Too much of the credit. Too much of the blame.
It sounds to me like he said “Captains” before the bit about veterans and “one good game.”
I don’t think it’s a reach to suggest this tirade was aimed at Brouwer, who is a Captain and has literally had one good game this year, which just happened to be last night.
Was he clowning around during drills or something? Was GG like, “wtf this guy’s wearing an A while sucking for 2 years and I when stick him on the second line to fill a hole, he finally shows up and then starts fornicating the canine the very next day in practice when we’re 4pts out of the playoffs at mid-season?”
Cause just imagining that makes me want to get in the car and drive to a sports store to buy a $150 hockey stick just so I can throw it, so I’m pretty on board with GG’s message here.
Then sorry this is right back on GG. You know what would make Brouwer open his eyes more than a contrived rant? A benching for a few games or hitting the waver wire or AHL.
A fat and sassy guy making what Brouwer makes and dogging his way at practice (if true) shows poorly on the people in control of his playing time and location.
Anyways, this is why I hope it wasn’t at him. I would lose my marbles at the coach and management for keeping a dead beat around a struggling team not the dead beat himself.

Seemed staged to me, and very out of character. GG strikes me as the kind of guy who doesn't know how to get mad, seems forced. I laughed! Not sure it'll be effective.

Agree, and further to that what was "Gully" response to the boat anchor assistant captain Brouwer give him another promotion as Froliks recent replacement since he has been injured. Yes laughable Brouwer received the bump up the roster the increase of ice time. Just another "Gully" lack of accountability decision.

Staged? Based on history a half assed effort from the players after one win seems likely. Fans and apparently the coach seem to care more about the record than the players.
