You did jump ship. I would look for it but don't have time to sift through hundreds of posts.

Treliving should have been questioned over his selection of goaltenders. That should have been enough to get him sacked. Multiple kicks at the can, lots of wasted assets, and no results to show for it. The coaching thing though? That's enough to get him sacked and never work in the NHL again. When you can't admit your mistakes, you shouldn't be running a major league sports team. Period.

Just wait for 4 more year ! Be patient ! He’s the best GM in hockey ! He’s managed to assemble a team and coaching staff that has accomplished nothing in 2.5 years outside a 12? Game winning streak

If the Flames fire Gulutzan, there's not a chance he gets hired as a head coach in the NHL again. None. Maybe he resurfaces as an assistant.

As a head coach? Not a chance.

I bet you're just praying for more Flames losses so you can complain even more. Seriously do you ever make a post where you're not complaining? I've yet to see one.

Exactly where every ex-Flames coaches go. Unemployment and never again a head coach in the NHL. Gulutzan may resurface as an assistant but like Playfair, Keenan, B. Sutter, and Hartley he will not be a head coach again in the NHL. This organization's main failure is not putting the right players on the ice but finding the right head coach for their team. When every coach you hire never finds work again in the NHL as head coach you know you are doing something wrong.

The players Hartley's system didn't work with were the 4th line scrubs and 3rd pair scrubs who couldn't complete / receive the long pass. I wonder why....

Notice how guys like Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk and Dougie Hamilton have blossomed under Gulutzan, because he favours a puck possession system.
?

Backlund had 47 points in Hartley's last year. He improved a whopping 6 points playing about 80 more minutes the next season with ALL six of those points of improvement coming on the power play. This, despite the fact that he went from playing with Joe Colborne to playing with Matthew Tkachuk.

Tkachuk never played for Hartley. WHat's to say he isn't already an 80 point guy under Bob?

Hamilton "blossomed" under Gulutzan? How did he look before he got paired with Giordano? Is he or is he not on pace for his worst offensive season in four years? What about Hamilton's play this season indicates "blossoming"?

LOL.

"Enough" by whose measure? Yours, obviously, but any reasonable boss's? He tried on the goaltending measure, and it failed. But a bit ridiculous to suggest his choice wasn't at least reasonable.

And the coaching thing? Last season saw the team improve in points and make the play-offs. So he should have "admitted his mistake"?

So, you hate him. So much so that in your mind he shouldn't work in the NHL again?

Elliot didn't pan out great but for the acquisition cost I think it was a good trade. Johnson was a fine back up. It's easy to criticize a move in hindsight but you have to also consider what options were available. There's no guarantee another goalie would have done better. Could you imagine how much people would be bitching if Bishop was brought in and we wasted a bunch of assets and he was eating up 6 million a year? A guy like Treliving you know exhausted all possibilities. Smith has been a solid pick up. Lack hasn't been good but we needed a vet back up of some kind. Luckily a guy like Rittich who Treliving brought in has been able to fill the role so far. Some people are just going to complain no matter what because its easy to do after the fact and without having the luxury of seeing how another option would have panned out.

Our best players were drafted by Sutter or Feaster...Trevilling has been good, probably top 10. But the way he wasted cap space still flabbergasts me. Oh and F#$& Burke for the "market value" stajan extension. He had no business doing that as an interim GM. Ken King please read.

Let’s review the goaltending.

Year 1 comes in with Ramo signed for another year and goes out and signs Hiller to a reasonable 2 year deal. That tandem gets it done as a middle of the pack group and the Flames shock and make the playoffs winning a round.

Treliving enters that summer with plenty of rumors of a new goalie. Talbot, Jones, etc the Flames are mentioned in trade talks. After the coup that was the Hamilton deal Treliving decided to hold onto his remaining picks and doubles down on Ramo-Hiller.

The next season is a spectacular failure of goaltending and the Flames are no longer getting the bounces. Ramo battles injury and the Flames give Ortiz, Backstrom looks and itnso clear that a new tandem needs to be brought in.

The draft the buzz all day was Bishop being dealt to Calgary. One of the elite goalies of the past several years and what the cost was remains to be seen. Articles suggested Bishop thought a deal was done but what I suspect is the Flames pulled the deal when they realized Tkachuk was going to fall to them. Treliving pivots and trades one of the 3 2nd round picks for Brian Elliott a goalie that took his team to the third round, and had sparkling stats over the past 5 years. The question remained if he was a true number 1. Treliving gets insureance by signing soood backup 1b goalie Chad Johnson and not giving Ortio the job.

We all know last season had both goalies getting extremely hot and frigidly cold. Good enough to get the Flames to the playoffs but Elliott completely melts down and the Flames walk away. Rumors of an Elliott extension came out in the early part of the season. Treliving smartly moves on.

This summer he is able to bring in Mike Smith who is a proven number 1. He brings in Eddie Lack for basically nothing for backup insurance. Smith has been everything we can ask for and the cost was a NCAA prospect and a 3rd that hopefully becomes a 2nd (condition of making the playoffs). In the meantime Rittich has emerged as a legit backup and the Flames were able to cut bait with Lack. Gillies and Parsons in the farm and no lobg term commitment to any goalie.

The fact you think that a team at the beginning of a scorched earth rebuild and made the playoffs twice should have the GM fired because he has replaced the goalies? Luckily he didn’t get locked into the deal with Bishop, or sign Elliott to an extension. Smith only has 2 years on his deal so while the goalie situation hasn’t been perfect it is far from a reason he should be fired and never work in the league again.

An over the top take on your part

The oldest players Treliving drafted would be 22 tough to say they should benour best players.

He did acquire 2 of our top 6 forwards and the entire right side of the defense.

Absolutely stealing Hamilton can’t be discounted
