Im extremely confused about this whole thing. Right now in Halifax there are 3+ "weed clinics" where anyone can walk into from the street, fill out a BS sign-up form (which they don't look at) and be able to purchase how ever much weed/hash/oil they want. For anyone who's familiar with Halifax, there not exactly tucked away either, located on main roads like Quinpool and Dresden Row. How is this possible?
I'm not complaining though, one clinic sells strains ranging from 6-12$ a gram. Another actually has the audacity to "tax" 15% on each gram which is flawed. These places (judging by how busy they are all time) are making an absolute killing. If anyone has more info on this or insight on why they're not getting shut down immediately by the police that'd be great.

The RCMP (or local police force) don't want to waste the man power to bust these places when they are going to be legal soon anyways. In Victoria and Van, they even sell business licences to the dispensaries.
As long as there are no complaints of selling to minors or they aren't close to schools, daycares, etc they don't really care. There are literally hundreds of them on the west coast.
Where are people buying $8.84 grams from? I haven't purchased weed from dealer in about 15 years but it was $10/G back when I did. I guess this could apply to bulk orders but I'd hope the government wasn't dumb enough to overlook that.
My LP Aurora is $8 a gram- I've had some killer strains from them, but also some meh. I have another source "club" based out of BC that has killer for even cheaper if you buy by the OZ, delivered to your door in 2 days by Canada Post
This legal weed stuff is great. I have two average rebellious teens who now have the government on their side and I am the big baddie. Coupled with the opinions of their friends, the internet and the celebrities that know more than I do I now have to basically just accept that they can smoke anytime they want and there's nothing I can do about it.
Cause it's legal.
Anyone else dealing with youth and weed? Any tips?

Are they under 18. If so, it's not legal for them. Kids will get weed if it's available in dispensaries or not.

Buy a bunch of bean bag chairs and incense and turn your house into a chill stoner crash pad. Then all the kids will hang out there and you can helicopter your kids without much effort.

My point being that it doesnt matter who is in charge, they always screw up things like this and it becomes a battle between provinces and the feds or it becomes a money sucking boondoggle. The gun registry comes to mind as a good example.

Treat it the same as cigarettes and booze? If they're underage I don't see how your approach would change regardless of substance
I don't know, it seems like this issue is something I can't win. My youngest has a girlfriend with liberal parents who smoke in front of them, and have no issue with them smoking. I have absolutely no sway anymore.
I am down to the option of accepting or kicking out. And it doesn't seem like the latter is an appropriate response.
I was all for decriminalization. I don't have a problem with adults making responsible choices regarding it. I just don't know what to do with it.
There was always a parent out there who would host the drinking party, with the logic that if they are going to drink I want them to do it under my roof, or give their kids condoms or birth control because they are going to have sex and they want them to be safe. So now we have to do that with weed too?

condoms or birth control or practical solutions to real problems.
Encouraging minors to consume substances that could impact their development is problematic. I mean I don't know if your kids are rational (probably not) but you could explain to them that their developing brain can be severely impaired by smoking marijuana at their age and they should wait until they are older.

Sorry to say, but this is a parenting problem (as in between you and your kids), not a government/decriminalization problem.

Tried that. But weed cures cancer, is natural, and has many other health benefits therefore that point is moot.
We have our share of issues for sure, and I should probably be happy they are open with me.
I do see this in a lot of kids though, they are pretty pumped about legal weed.
Which is hilarious because it'll be harder to get for them and the penalties for selling to minors are going to be harsh.
I'm not a parent and am not planning on becoming one but I can give you the perspective of a teen who smoked a tonne of pot and drank pretty heavily during my teen years and the reasons for that were:
- Hated school and had no extracurricular activities so was fairly bored outside of school
- Grew up in an abusive home, so spent as little time there as possible
- My friends smoked weed and because I wanted to spend as little time at home as possible I would be with my friends constantly, so it became a social activity
- Used it to escape the feelings I was having regarding my situations at home and school
- No one ever really had an honest conversation with me regarding the longterm health effects so I tended to believe they were largely exaggerated
- I'm generally prone to risk-seeking behaviour, which unfortunately is mostly genetic and can't be changed
I think the best you can do is have an honest conversation with your kids and instead of telling him why you don't want him to smoke weed, ask them why they wants to and see if that changes the dynamic of the conversation. And I'd arm yourself with as much factual information as possible just so they have the information but try to refrain from lecturing them or making demands.
You also have to remember that even for teens, one of their biggest fears is getting in trouble from or letting down their parents, so I would try to frame the conversation about your worries or concerns about the potential health impacts instead of how angry or upset you'll be.
Just my two cents.
