Perhaps that's part of the problem. Unrealistic expectations.
I view the Flames very similarly to most of the NHL - a good but not great team with some great pieces and some flaws.
Welcome to the salary cap era.
A lot of it comes down to who executes the best and how well the parts fit together.
How many truly complete teams are there in the league? It is a pile of mediocritiy where virtually any night any team can beat the other.
On paper the Flames are certainly not materially better than most of the other teams.
