In their daily lives, I don't believe most Russians spend too much time thinking about these issues. They're too busy with their lives.

As another poster pointed out, the Russian public's attitude towards gays and is not so different than the attitudes in Canada 30 or 40 years ago - or the attitudes held by the majority of Trump supporters today (35-40% of the population apparently). Were/are those societies 'garbage'?

That's why enlightened societies are always trying to progress rather than regress (MAGA!).

This discussion around sexual abuse in Hollywood and elsewhere is a good example of society progressing rather than just accepting the standard norms.

Criticism and moral evaluation are the exact reasons western culture got so advance. If you don't can't apply those concepts to another culture, then aren't you basically saying those cultures are incapable of improvement?

Seriously, that's a defense now? "Well gee, you know I don't think about the gay much but when I do, I kind of thing they should be eradicated."

And again, as pointed out by several posters now, Canada continues to progress to a point where less and less people believe these things, whereas Russia is heading in the opposite direction, but please, enlighten us with more of your compelling anecdotal evidence and false equivalencies.

Don't know about you, but I tend to not associate with people who think gays shouldn't be accepted by society or that it's okay to beat women, regardless of their religion or where they come from.

It's perfectly valid to be intolerant of intolerance. I don't think I'd call Russia a "garbage" society, but I'd definitely call it an intolerant and regressive society.

And that would be perfectly fair. They've got a long ways to come. Many non-Western societies do.

But just being intolerant of them and shrugging your shoulders at an entire society doesnt speak well of us either, it means that we're not willing to help and they have to figure it out on their own.

Just write them all off.
