And what is it with Dougie consistently waiting for pucks to come to him while he just stands there? I've noticed this repeatedly the last 4-5 games. Happened again tonight on the last Flames PP.. the puck was ringed around the boards and instead of taking a stride forward to pick it up, he stood there watched the puck and the Stars player both close in on him. Puck cleared of the zone.
It's just one stride.
Dumb and lazy.
I was sitting right there screaming at him to get it. He was just standing there!!!!

Hamilton should be downright embarrassed with his play this year. 0 compete, not skating, no physicality, won't take a hit to make a play. I can't get over him ditching the puck to try avoid a hit. There was no play so don't force it, hold the puck and take the hit as if you were 6'5 and paid millions of dollars to do it.

Starting to understand why Boston moved on from Hamilton, not that I think they made the right decision.
But he can engage full on passenger mode for long stretches of games. Totally flakes out, no urgency, brings the tempo down. Sometimes you need to drive the play Dougie. Sometimes you need to act like what you do will make a difference out there. Sometimes you need to hit GD net.
Jesus frustrating player.

He must have a groin surgery during this offseason

The irony is the bad play by the D in general is causing them to take extra hits. Their lazy passes to each other, putting each other in crappy positions, and being careless with the puck all end with their respective partners taking that extra hard hit.
Right now they're their own worst enemies. If they straightened out just some basics amongst each other, they'd take much less punishment.

Dunno I was watching the game with the sound off so I didn't hear the number of times the name Bennett was mentioned. But from my view I saw what I always see in him, a player with no head for the game. Constantly confused over what to do in the offensive zone. He has zero touch to his game. In the first period he took the puck out from behind the net to pass it right into a sliding defender who went down to block the pass last Summer. It's was a misread so bad that you rarely see it in the league. Yet there he is, the one with essentially zero hockey sense embarrassing himself out there.
Just watch him in the offensive zone, he has no clue what he's doing. It's nice to see that he can partake in a cycle. But he can't parlay that into offense. Bennett is bringing Jagr down. Think about that a 21 year old fourth overall pick can't drive a line with a 45 year old on it.
I've always wanted Bennent to succeed as I like his drive and compete. However too many times I see junior hockey style plays. We used to make fun of some oiler players about their tendency to dangle and try a toe drag far more than they should. I see the same things in Sam. Those moves that worked in junior don't work in the show.
It's saddening as in junior he was praised on his hockey IQ. However rarely do I see this IQ in his current game.
Bennett needs to play with an edge but his borderline penalty costs him. After he starts taking less penalty his edge is gone, and his play has receded significantly. GG should tell him to resume his play style to see if he can reignite his play somewhat

I was hoping for the following d pairs prior to the season:
Gio-Hamonic
Brodie-Hamilton
Kulak-Stone
This would allow Gio to go solo on the first unit PP, and Brodie/Hamilton to pair on the second unit without mixing pairs.
Would also allow Gio/Hamonic to play first unit PK (as I wanted pre-season) and Brodie/Stone on the second PK.
One reason behind this is that as they age I expect Hamilton/Brodie to become first pair, and Gio/Hamonic to slide down to 2nd pair. At least at 5 on 5.
If it still doesn’t work re-unite Brodie and Stone, and play Hamilton with Kulak 5 on 5

Hook into the hands, and then a 2nd slash into the hands. Both of which have been called against the Flames constantly this year. Dallas tied it on the same shift.

Was at the game tonight. First time seeing Mike Smith in person. Seems like he really messed up the D a lot playing the puck. On more than a few occasions, he held onto the puck for too long and then he dumps it off to a D in the corner who already had pressure on him. Led to a bunch of turnovers tonight.
Interesting I have noticed that as well. Even with Lack in net the D made less mistakes so there is something to it.

My personal opinion, a Brodie-Hamilton pairing would be a complete disaster characterized by mind numbing stupidity and numerous turnovers.

I know the NHL won't do anything, but this is the type of play the league needs to look at seriously. Johnny is lucky he didn't suffer a knee injury here, even as he tries to recover and plant his leg it looked precarious.
As someone who blew out their ACL during this type of collision, I cringed watching the replay.

It's simply stupid to do so at the end if games, especially when the 4th line had not contributed a goal for the whole season. It's plain stupidity.
It wasn't the end of the game. It was less than 3/4 through the third, not too long after a 5 on 3, followed by shifts by the other lines. The other lines do need a break from time to time.
Count the shifts. He doesn't "roll four lines" as some here say. The fourth line gets on two or three times per period. That was probably their second shift in the third.

Maybe that’s true.
But if both Brodie and Hamilton can only play well with Gio, then why are 2 guys taking 10m/yr from the Flames without bringing anything to the table?
Like I said, you might be right, and I want to know. Let’s figure out right now if “the best FLAMES D OF ALL TIME” is real or fools gold.
At the end of the day Gulletzen knows he’s not getting a top 5 upgrade this season so let’s figure it out right now. Can these guys make it work?
I’m happy with our goaltending. I’m happy with our top 6. Even if the points aren’t there yet, I like the 3rd line, and I think there will be some good moments this season.
I’m ok with the talent on the 4th line.
The D is hit or miss. Mostly passable, but not worth it. It was supposed to carry the team and it is not that.
I disagree it's Kulak and Stone that cost the team this game when Brodie alone had 2 turnovers resulted in 2 goals against.
I know everyone wants to jump on the Brodie sucks bandwagon but really get your facts right.
The first goal was when Brodie was in the corner and lost the puck and a goal resulted - there you were correct.
The second goal that Brodie was on the ice for go back and tell me where Brodie turned the puck over? The 3 forwards all touched or tried to touch the puck and Seguin ended up scoring with Brodie vs a 2on1.
Sure Brodie makes mistakes with a second to make the right play but you have the game and highlites to see the play and you still can't get it right.
