1. The Flames current top-line right winger has scored 4 goals and 9 points in his last ten games, and is on pace to score 50 points in the season. The "hole" on RW is badly exaggerated by some.

2. The Flames have two promising goalie prospects in the AHL who both appear near ready to begin playing in the NHL, and a younger goalie who is widely regarded as a blue-chip option in net at some point in the next three or four years. The "hole" in goal is non-existent.

and there is no reason to be confident that either problem will be fixed by the time Gaudreau either gets his 10M or goes elsewhere to win...
3. Gaudreau is five years removed from UFA. That is an eternity in NHL hockey years, and as demonstrated above there are plenty reasons to be confident about solutions to both of these supposed problems.

I'd much prefer we go the path of Toronto and realize that the problem is systemic to the organization.
4. The Flames have overhauled their entire hockey ops. dept. in the period of the last five or six years, and have undertaken significant philosophical changes which appear to be yielding positive results at present and into the future. This is much ado about nothing.

the way I remember it, Chiassons first line experiment was over in November or so and it only happened sporadically later in the year. Maybe I'm wrong, but I certainly don't remember him spending a large portion of the year next to Monahan and Gaudreau.

Either way, I just don't see it as a failure at all. The Flames only gave up a career AHLer for him, he made peanuts and chipped in offensively. Obviously he's not a top 6 forward and I agree it's on Gulutzan that he saw time there.

Haha. Just having a bit of fun with you because the way you worded it made it seem like it was a bad thing the Flames have quickly built a competitive team after tearing it down.

What have the Leafs done exactly? They made the playoffs once and got bounced in the first round...

I actually checked to make sure my memory was accurate. At 5 on 5, the only player he shared a line with more than Gaudreau was Bennett:

Bennett 412:45 (44%)
Gaudreau 382:24 (41%)
Stajan 286:34 (31%)
Monahan 264:37 (28%)
Bouma 172:04 (18%)
Versteeg 142:34 (15%)

Also played most of his powerplay minutes with the top line - though this was the experiment that ended early, as Gaudreau and Monahan had over 220 minutes of PP time, so Chiasson was less than 20% of that total:

Monahan 42:43
Gaudreau 42:03
Versteeg 32:36
Bennett 15:37

I liked Chiasson on the fourth line. He just spent way too much time on the first. Still glad he found a contract in Washington though.

He left Vancouver before Gulutzan got there and came and went from the Flames before Gulutzan coached a single game.

Parsons has been lighting it up in the ECHL as well. Maybe they want to make a spot for him on the AHL roster, and so have to graduate Rittich.

I suspect Rittich gets the Show before Gilles.

Except that they called Gillies up when Smith got hurt. And last year they played him for one whole game before Rittich played an d got only one period.
Do those count?

Gillies was already in Michigan for a funeral. The guys on the Fan 960 mentioned that was part of the reason he got the call ahead of Rittich.

It's also worth noting that Brad has waived guys and then kept them on the roster multiple times. So, it's possible nothing will change.

True. That said, he's been in the "show" ahead of Rittich. Twice.

I think people remember the part where almost 1/3 of JG's ice time in 2016/2017 was with Chiasson on the ice with him.
