No it's not. It's in the CBA. Every player has the right to a hearing before the league subjects them to supplemental discipline.
Since when is yapping at someone leaving the ice worthy of supplemental discipline? Maybe the tap, but that’s pretty harmless.

I guess that’s the way hockey is going though. I like how every media outlet was calling that a brawl. That was a minor skirmish not even ten years ago.

Let us know, as me myself would like to add my signature. But let us hope it doesn't come to that.

LOL just clicked on the link in the op and read that fine piece by the wings fan boy. What exactly did Bennett do that was the most dangerous actions of the night?

If Tkachuk acted unsportsmanlike, then how did Mantha act?

I’m assuming this is the Bennett play he’s talking about:

When they have a reputation and when their actions directly helped start a brawl.

Also, today is not ten years ago, and whining about the past is not an actual argument.

Default Witkowski 10 games, Tkachuk Hearing

One of my favourite aspects of the thread so far are the various spellings of Witkowski put forward. Wikowski, Winkowski, Rasinski, Bartkowski, Bobrobsky, Gretzky, etc. I certainly won’t blame anyone for not worrying about how to spell the dude’s name.

Did whateverski even react to the "spear" ? watching the replay it doesn't look like it to me .
someone on the bench seems to have said something that sets him off well after the poke from Matty

Tkachuk literally had one hand on his stick and tapped Witkowski on the back of the skate as he was leaving the ice all the while yapping at the entire Flames bench. I can’t even believe Chucky has a hearing. The NHL is becoming a joke.

Yea, he turns around almost 2 seconds, giver take. He is "speared" or more accurately, taped by Matty, takes a step, then someone must say something because that is when he turns around to say something.

Exactly what I just came to post after seeing it again. He didn’t even know he was tapped on the skate it was so light. Something is said and he loses his cool so what’s player safety going to say, Tkachuk, your too witty or you can’t say mean things. Shy of words being said that are crossing the line which I don’t believe happened as that leaks pretty quick, the NHL is wasting Tkachuks time.

The Player Safety video for Witkowski provides some insight. They refer to what Tkachuk did as a "slash" which they understand "was provocative, unnecessary and unsportsmanlike".

So it seems they have pretty firmly decided there is no spear that forms part of the hearing and the language they used seems much more consistent with a fine than a suspension.

I would lead with "yeah I got a spearing major already for not spearing anyone" and see where it goes from there...

It's a Sean Avery type thing to do.

I'm thinking there will be a 1 game suspension. If this was just a one time thing then they would probably give a warning. But I have a feeling Tkachuk has already been given warnings in the past so likely a suspension.

Witkowski will never play in the NHL again after this. He's a joke of a hockey player as he is basically a very, very, very poor mans Deryk Engelland that lacks every tool in the box. It's incredibly sad that the Red Wings of all teams figured they needed a completely useless goon like him in the first place in the year 2017. Good riddance you giant POS, nobody will miss you.

Bearded goon recieved the easiest 10 game automatic suspension that the NHL could and did hand out to him. Tkachuk's 5 min spearing call for rapping a dude on the ankle is one of the most ridiculous calls that has ever been defined as spearing. Unsportsmanlike sure but spearing?? That ref should be tied to a chair and forced to watch a thousand clips of spearing. Meanwhile it appears like the NHL is going to entirely ignore Mantha's antics when the ref was trying to pry him off of Hamonic inside the bench area.
