I agree with the guys saying on 960 saying the Flames are not tough enough.Good points but Pat is out to lunch on that.

My understanding of Johnson's situation is he felt he was good enough to get a shot at starting and it became obvious from his chats with management that it wouldn't happen for him here.

Johnson looked shaky at the end of last season, would've still liked him as a backup but obviously not a starter. Shame he didn't stay as I do think he's a very good backup

The more I think about it, the more at ease I am with this game.
Two days off now, on the road, the fellas will have plenty of time to bond over the the mini brawl and laugh this one off. Mark my words we will spank philly on Saturday and by seasons end we will look back and realize this was a turning point

They aren't. In January 2004, I don't remember which commentator was it, one of the former players for sure, he said: "At this point, not a single team in the NHL would want to play Calgary in the playoffs." That was a very powerful statement.

A coach's job is to implement a system, prepare the game plan, and adapt to game situations. Gulutzan may be good/bad at all/any/none of these things - I don't know.
What I do know is that to motivate professional athletes to be ready to play is absolutely no part of his job description.

I am equally stunned that you believe this to be true, and that you seem to believe that leadership and emotion are essentially ‘fairytales’. And if pro sports teams refuse to believe that there is a benefit gained by having a coach who is skilled in these types of human factors, then there is a tremendous opportunity for a competitive advantage to be gained.
Of course I am sure that isn’t the case, but it’s cool to see that some people think it is.

Good coaches do it. Bad coaches don't.
On another note, Lack's numbers keep getting worse over the course of his career and I think his NHL days may be numbered. His sv% was just a smidge over .900 in Carolina and it's .813 so far this year. Ouch.

"It’s a joke that a guy like that would go after one of my best buddies and kind of stick his elbow out and come across the whole ice and just do something pretty stupid that started everything,” Tkachuk said of Witkowski.
"Just get out of here. Like, what are you doing? It’s just stupid.”

the Wings aren't even tough though, all they had was Witkowski, no need for Engelland in this game to have a push back.

I wonder if the Wings were upset with Brouwer breaking Abdelkader's cheek?
This bad blood came out of nowhere.

Also don't understand how people can make light of Tkachuks' spear, that could have killed someone..................Achilles.

Engelland would have tuned him in the first period.

score was 3-1, Ferland should have accepted the invitation. hindsight but the Wings wouldn't have scored the shorty if it went 4v4.

Of course they were. It was a great first punch and a bunch of unnecessary punches from behind.
No doubt that's why they are upset and rightfully so. If a Flames player kept getting punched in the back of the head while down and turned around I'd probably want some revenge too.
What is the most troubling part is the phantom call on Tkachuk. Refs really do hate the Flames. It's not a conspiracy theory it's reality.

Brodie was brutal...again...
Team needs to get a real backup goalie.
Wouldn't hurt to have a heavyweight in the lineup that can also play hockey.
