You have heard me complain about the unprofessionalism of Kevin Quinn’s and Drew Remenda’s obvious, blind homerism. I consider that an entirely separate issue from delivery.

And others find delivery a bigger issue. Don't think people care if Cassie is a homer or not.
She's awful and really bad at her job. Her delivery sucks, she says stupid stuff, talks too much for a color woman.
Some of the oblivious crap she says makes me wonder if she even watched the Flames. "Stajan having his best game of the season". She has zero positives and literally doesn't add anything to the game.
And Remenda is a homer? Are the Oilers even his favorite team? I don't think so.

For whatever it's worth, I find that only one thing really bugs me about Cassie Campbell's commentary: She's too wordy. There is a knack to delivering ‘colour’ quickly, with a minimum of words, so as not to interrupt the play-by-play excessively. Some people have that knack. Campbell hasn't. She reminds me a bit of when Jim Peplinski was doing colour. He had some pretty good insights into the game, but wasted too much time trying to tie his sentences up with a nice bow knot at the end.
If Sportsnet really want to improve the audio component of their on-air product, maybe they should get Peter Loubardias to give a seminar for colour commentators. He can go on endlessly about hockey minutiae, but he also knows how to be brief and pithy when the situation calls for it.

They don't have to be his favorite team for him to be a homer while doing Oiler games. Are you saying you "don't think" he's a homer, or the Oilers are his favorite team?
Because he's a homer.

Colour is a different animal, and he has settled right into that job.

I'll add myself to the group that thought Campbell-Pascal was just fine last night. I'm sure she will improve with experience as I have little doubt that is a job that looks a lot easier than it actually is. Personally, I also thought that was one of Stajan's best games of the season... nice screen on the Stone goal, got a shot on goal, 58% corsi. What's the issue there?

Kevin Quinn is a homer. Remenda is not. He always calls out the Oilers, says they deserve penalties when they actually do. I watch most Oiler games and while I don't think he's a good color guy he definitely isn't a homer.

He'll call them out, and actually sounds a bit pissy when he does, but he fluffs the Oilers a lot. Just like he did when doing color for SJ games.

And the constant whining when there's no penalty call (nor should their be), the amazing/incredible type plays like Draisatl slowing down at the line to remain on-side, etc.
Or maybe he's just amazed, which anyone should be?

Flames 5 Devils 4 SO WIN
Cassie’s main problem, through no fault of her own, is that she and Rick have zero chemistry while Rick and Kelly have it in spades. Seriously, Ball and Hrudy are the best 2 guys calling games right now, anywhere. We’re unbelievably lucky they call the regional games for the Flames.

Both of those passes belong on any “top plays of the month” list. Just fantastic.

The speed at which Johnny thinks and executes is up there with the best in the game:
For anyone that missed it:

Something you notice in this clip struck me as starting to happen a lot. I think Johnny's goals are down this year because he's getting less space. I can't think of many instances where he's open to take a shot in dangerous scoring areas. And that is why his assists are way up. He draws players toward him, and then dishes an incredible pass to a wide open team mate benefiting from more space.
You can see how when the puck comes to him in the above clip, everyone on the Devils focuses on him. Now that they can't hack his hands off, they can just zero in. The result seems to be more openings for him to dish the puck off.
Loving it in either case.

Damn that play was close to offside. You can drag the clip and see. When I first saw it live I thought for sure it was offside and that it was going to be challenged.

I didn't notice the little stick lift from Johnny before the feed to Ferland on that play.

Maybe to the naked eye, but it's not really close and with the way everyone is more cautious now I can't see that having been close to challenged.
