A huge positive is that the Flames only took 2 penalties. Killing penalties all the time has killed this team.

Still, secondary scoring has to happen if this is going to be a playoff team. The Flames won't win many games if they don't score more than two.
Points or not, i think the big thing yesterday was that the bottom 6 (3rd line primarily) not only managed solid offensive zone time, they actually were creating scoring chances. They do this enough, the points will no doubt come. What it also does is create waves of havoc for the opposition, allowing the top line some better looks.

We've seen flashes of this here and there, it would be great if the 3rd line can string together a few games in a row now where they are seen as an actual threat.

I thought the 3rd line looked good, unfortunately, they won't have much time to build on the chemistry as Jagr is back and the line will be broken up.

That is one criticism I have of GG, he isn't giving the 3rd line enough time to develop chemistry. I thought the Bennett-Versteeg-Jagr line was on the verge of breaking out, they were generating chances and if it wasn't for Jagr being a bit rusty, they would have had a few goals (and yes, Bennett would have had a few assists by now). But then GG moved Jagr onto the first line and Bennett has never looked the same since.

Just leave Ferland on the first line, he is fine there, he compliments them.

Leave Jagr with Bennett and keep Jankowski there too. Give this line at least 5 games together and see where it goes.

Have Lazar centre the fourth line between Brouwer and Versteeg. Let this run for 5 games too.

The bottom 6 needs some consistency and confidence, let them play and develop the chemistry.

Yup, i like the idea of a speedy Lazar centering the 4th line. Stajan needs to sit

I think Ferland may end up staying on the first line for a bit. Not sure how that would affect the lines below however! Likely big shuffles for lines 3 and 4

The Cap back on the 2 on 1 takes away the pass, which is right. Johnny circles around, Mony stops and stands on the doorstep, and 3 more Caps come back in the timeframe and not one of them even as much as skates towards Mony in an attempt to tie him up, at the very least. It’s like Mony is standing there, invisible.

They didn't bother to cover him because he's so boring.

Well, sure. Who bothers covering a garbageman who only knows how to score easy goals?

Francis spoke during one of the intermissions about breaking up the 3M line...I think it’s time. Right now, the only consistent offence we get is funnelled through #13. We certainly have the ability on the roster to be more dangerous...

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Jagr
Versteeg - Lazar - Brouwer

That would be cool to see.
With our current personnel, I think this is the best roster we could ice. Maybe swap Bennett/Tkachuk but either way these are the best 12 skaters we have.

I think some of this stuff is chicken or egg though isn't it?

They started the season without Jagr, and Ferland was given the spot. He was a tire fire so they started trying other options.

Then Jagr joins the team but isn't really game ready. The result is a struggling first line with Ferland mailing it in, and a third line that looks good but gets nothing done.

So he moves Jagr to Monahan and Gaudreau's wing hoping that even with Jagr not finishing he may keep the plays alive and get Monahan and Gaudreau going.

Then Jagr gets hurt.

This isn't blender for the sake of blender. It's a guy trying to plug three holes in the dam with only two thumbs.

I agree ...

I think it's worth the investment to get Bennett going, and Backlund/Frolik are certainly the best players to accomplish that.

Tkachuk looks ready to drive a line now (not carry) and putting him with two big bodies that are good on the boards may really work out.

Bennett-Jankowski-Lazar looked really, really good last night. Please don't break this line up, GG. Not even to put Jagr on it.
