I don't know how many Flames fans have realized that this team is extremely slim on quality skilled forwards in the system and has one pick in the first two rounds of the next two drafts. One pick! Management has gone all in on this group. That's frightening.

After 12 games last season Calgary was 5-6-1. We are basically on pace for the exact same total. This is awful.

In my opinion, the shortfalls on this team fall more in-line with Treliving's responsibilites than those of Gulutzan. Some of the personnel at Gully's disposal is just wholly inadequate for NHL duty.

This is not a good situation if this is how the coach is sending a message to his team. There must be a lack of communication between coach and players for this to be happening.

If things keep going this way they will be getting some picks back

And it's the deficit spending on picks that's left them without viable options in the minors.
Vicious circle.

You think Brouwer or Stajan are going to return picks? They don't have a lot of good players available to dump at the deadline unless they move Backlund.

It does kind of feel like Darryl Sutter all over again. The team mortgaging the future on a flawed team.

Because The GM puts Stajan and Brouwer out there with Two and a half minutes to go?

CGY has lost that hard working DNA that Hartley preached and Treliving talked about. There is no fire in the Flames. Defensively they are content to sit back and absorb it. Guys are just losing battles all over.
People may disagree but Glass gets in there hard his linemates can't make anything out of it. If Ferland is on the top line he needs to do that stuff.
Jankowski's line is not hard to play against either. There is a team wide lack of initiative, they are just waiting for others to make it happen. Little or no directness or assertiveness

No, man. Just no. You’re grasping. Treliving’s only bad moves were signing Brouwer and hiring Gulutzan. He’s one of the best GM’s in the league.

Gulutzan likes the 'good guy' older players he has befriended more.
Eg. Kulak comes in and plays well but he brings his bud bartkowski back in just cause

Bennett veering toward bust really stalled out the rebuild and contention window. If Bennett panned out like Draisatl then this team is dangerous. Tkachuk takes off some of the edge and if he takes the next step maybe that can push the team. Otherwise there's not much left in the pipeline unless Fox really is Housley 2.0

No he really isn't. The over rating of Treliving continues.
Great GMs don't send down players who deserve to be in the NHL because they made stupid signings.
They also don't sign useless players like Grossman and Glass off a PTO.
And they definitely don't sign a small weak pp specialist useless 5 on 5 player and then re-sign him again.

Oh wow, a person would have thought that was an away game
Flames had zero emotion, generated very little offense
Really boring game....
