Get Brouwer out of the line up, put Versteeg on the 4th with his PP time and have it be Jankowski - Bennett - Jagr. Stop being so rigid with wing/center GG. Guys who've learned the game at center won't forget it overnight.
Someone mentioned Jankowski spent his 1st season with the Friars at left wing, it's not going to hurt him in his rookie NHL season either.

I think Ferland should be Jagr's RW apprentice this year. If Treliving can add an additional top right winger for next year to play with Gaudreau and Monahan, Ferland would probably slot in to the Versteeg - Bennett line RW once Jagr retires.

Just a hunch but I think Jagr was brought in to mentor Bennett, the Flames on more one occasion have talked about a mentor for Bennett. I think initially that mentor was supposed to be Bouwer but that has not translated very well.

I believe in the Jays.

Man, I really hope Jagr can play on Saturday... if he comes out on skates for the home open roll call the roof will be blown right off when #68 is called.

Oilers - $4.425M

And with a cap system, that is what is hampering the Flames getting better talent on the top two lines or in net.

Obviously Bennett is going to learn a ton from Jagr but he's still going to be playing the C position. I'm sure most of the team will get something out of his time here too. But you're going to have a season of Versteeg - Bennett - Jagr building chemistry and then next year you're going to have a big hole to fill. Ferland is a RW, has size and a strong shot, his game could improve a ton learning those right spots to go on the ice for a RW and play on that line next year.

Based on the same one game you are basing this on, Mike Smith seemed like a pretty awesome talent in net....

They can pull an Edmonton and just announce everyone, trainers and scratches alike.

I hope to God this happens. Otherwise we wait for a full week before he plays at the Dome.

If what they say about him is true, I'll bet he'll be ready by Saturday. He might need some time to get to game speed (with no preseason), and he might need some time to get comfortable in the system, but I have to think he's already at or close to game conditioning. He's too old (and too smart) not to take care of his body and get it ready for the season even though he was unsigned up until last week.

I could see Jagr being of great use to Ferland. We don't have any forwards besides Tkachuk that can use their body to shield and protect the puck, and we can see it hinder us with our inability to create and maintain zone time.
The Oilers have a couple of forwards that are elite at it: Draisaitl, Lucic and Maroon in particular. They are great at putting their backside into their opponents chest and shielding the puck while their linemates move around and get into prime scoring positions. Jagr will help greatly in this regard.
Monahan could learn how to use his body more to his advantage. It's like he tries to play a finesse game like Matthews, but doesn't have his explosive skating ability. Monahan needs to get stronger on the puck and be more physical, he needs to learn how to win board battles and generate the cycle.
Same with Ferland, who has the size and frame to do so. It might be too late to teach an old dog new tricks, but Brouwer for being 6'3 2xx pounds, is surprisingly horrible along the boards.

I agree with your take on Ferland, maybe tips from Jagr could help him be more effective on that top line! The guy has played along side some of the best players in the world. You can't go wrong with a guy like that!

Looking at that interview I wonder ... Is Troy Brouwer an elf? He could fit right in at Rivendell.

I read that as, "yes I understand why I am assigned to the 4th line, because Jags is more skilled than me and a better fit with Bennett. I will accept defensive duties on the 4th line and it makes sense."

Yup. So is Janko.
Ironically, Brouwer and F. Hamilton are not.
