There are conflicting stories between the the bartender that claimed to be with him (the Canadian male from BC) until he passed away, and his girlfriend who is also claiming the same thing.

In the CBC interview the bartender sounded completely truthful. How could someone make up that kind of story?

Possible the facebook accounts of the girlfriend and mom purporting to dispute the account are fake (not the real people's accounts). Broken people troll tragedies and this is one of their things - pretend to be relatives and friends of the deceased to stir up drama and sow discord.

The "I performed CPR until he stop breathing" part is pretty suspicious.

Hey Siri, what's the dumbest take anyone has managed to come up with on this shooting so far?

He's right though; the majority of Americans, republican and democrats, want some common sense gun control rules:

background checks, regardless of buying online or at a gun show...

people with mental illness shouldn't be allowed to purchase guns...

its their representatives that haven't been able to get this through (due to NRA pressure), even though the majority of their constituents support the above two measures...

i would add:

No silencers, No assault rifles.... i'd also reconsider allowing guns to be purchased by anyone on terrorist watch lists... really does not compute imo...

The latter two are unlikely to happen, and the Silencer relaxation legislation is currently on the docket and was set to be heard this week prior to the LV shooting (delayed previously due to the Scalise shooting in washington).
I hate to nitpick, but this is the kind of thing pro-gun extremists will latch on to and try to discredit your arguments. Your typical AR-15 is NOT an assault rifle, it is a magazine fed semi-automatic rifle. The vast VAST majority of the rifles you see in the US and that you can purchase are the AR- variety, and they are semi-auto. Semi auto is no less dangerous than fully auto, but again it's good to know your facts so the extremists don't dismiss your arguments right off the bat. (It's recently come to my attention two pages back that they can now be modified into almost fully auto, assault style, but I digress).

It's extremely rare for non-military and police personnel to acquire a fully auto weapon, or a true assault rifle like the M16 or AK-47.

Interesting story about Paddock's father. He was on the FBI's 10 most wanted list and was a life-long criminal. He was described by the FBI as narcissistic and psychopathic.

I think that Ole Pat isn't going to be meeting his maker when he goes, he's going to be meeting that other guy.

Making a profit off of the word of god? I can't see how God would be all that pleased if he did exist, and the only thing he'd say to Pat is "Pull my finger"

Worrying about the nomenclature extremists(!) Will use to discredit your argument is how you prevent any meaningful legislation from being passed.

Gun control laws can't be gun control laws if they defer to extremist (!)gun nuts.

Cro, can you provide a definition on assault rifle please?

I have practiced many assaults with a semi automatic.

The frustration most feel is the difference of what happens after the attack depends on who did it.

For attacks done by terrorist organizations - spying and NSA related activities go up (phone/email, etc screening), attempted immigration crackdowns, added security measures at airports, etc.

For attacks done by people with no links to terrorist organizations - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No gun control, no mental health spending, nothing. And it happens again and again.

My favourite part of any of these attacks is when they interview the gun shop owners who sold the various weapons. It's always something like "I dunno, he seemed alright to me". Ya, maybe gun shop owners aren't a very good at psychoanalyzing.

I'd like to modify this by saying laws can't be fair and proper laws if they are controlled by lobby groups.

They aren't and that's really not their job. They have to work within the boundaries of the law of the land.

If you suddenly put a lot of requirements into place for gun ownership, probably 90% of the gun shop owners would abide by them, some might grumble that its hurting sales but they don't want to be shut down or charged with a felony.

I would expect that one of the real problems would be person to person or private sales or online sales.
