It's also the first period of the first game of preseason. Goalies need game action to truly get ready for the season. Much more than position players. If Smith does this in the last pre-season game, then you can start worrying.

Who cares how Elliott was in preseason last year? It has absolutely no bearing on the fact Smith has let in two absolute stinkers in this game so far. Yes, it is preseason, the first game of it in fact.

He still let in two goals that most peewee players would have stopped.

Get the bugs out now, instead of in game 1.

That was GG's mistake last year. Mixed the lines, and brought the real team together essentially going into the first game that actually mattered.

This year he can start to beat the system into the regulars again before the dance starts, get them playing the last few exhibition games with their game one roster, give or take a prospect. I imagine they'll be prepared when it matters. I don't expect that tonight, but I damn well expect the in Calgary roster to give a hard push back on this Oilers roster.
