Opinion, yes. Targeting a section of Vancouver with their hate mail is wrong. Having it placed in peoples mail boxes without their opproval is wrong also. It's no different than the Mormons or JW's knocking on your door in an attempt to shove their beliefs down your throat.
Those sects are small and invisible. Why don't they speak out against the hatred and bigotry thta most organised religous sects spew?

Uh...this is what he was quoted saying.

I don't think I am reading that wrong....do you?

I didn't click the link. Okay, I agree on his first sentence. Disagree on the latter. You can't ban religion the same way that you can't ban beer. People will rebel. But people can evolve.

Yes there are some that aceept gays and lesbians but they are the very very small minority.

Massive blanket statements right there. Who are you to paint billions of Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, etc... with the same brush?
Shame.
Do I believe in a seperation of Church and State? Absolutely, although it has to be realized that it cuts both ways. The State has absolutely no right in a free and democratic society to intervene in people's religious lives.
However, I personally believe this secularization of society is akin to playing with fire. People's faith and religious beliefs do and should have an impact on their political values. This should be embraced instead of ridiculed. By placing a higher value on so-called secular perspectives, we are pushing a majority of Canadians who hold religious beliefs out of politics. A Christian's opposition to same-sex marriage isn't necessarily out of bigotry or hatred towards homosexuals, no matter what Sir. Elton would like you to think.
The deep pinnings of people's beliefs must be examined instead of offhandedly dismissed with prejudice.

They are?
United Church endorses gay marriage
The church has recognized same-sex union for nearly 20 years and has ordained gay and lesbian ministers since 1988.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2003/08...age030814.html
According to stats Canada...there were almost 3 million members of the United church in Canada in 2001. 10% of the population....doesn't appear small and invisible.

Just a response to the blanket statements made by churches who are against gays and lesbians. For them to suggest they are evil and have nothing to contribute to society......
Shame indeed.

So because one group sends out documents saying gay sex is wrong....and you totally disagree with it.....you want another church to send out documents saying gayt sex is right. Ok Elton.

Who said anything about gay sex?
I don't want another church to send out documents saying gay sex is okay. I thank you in advance for your apology.

I'm not trying to defend organized religion. I know most religions are strongly agasint homosexual behavior. But there are some that aren't and its not fair to say they are. And for those churches that are, there aer strong voices of change that are coming from within.
Regardless, lets say they all do paint gays and lesbians with the same brush. Its wrong. Which is exactly what Elton John is trying to do with organized religion. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Yes, both sides are filled with hypocrisy. But I also think it's not uncommon for those who are smeared with the same brush to respond in kind.

Perhaps, but it sure doesn't make it right.

So when the posties raised the issue of hate mail, where were those strong voices supporting them? From what I read MLA', MP"s, and the general public were the ones showing support.

From what I gather, you're talking about one specific incident. Do not make this mistake of regarding all organized religion as hateful towards the gay community.

Of course not all religion is hateful against gays.
That was just the latest incident. I was just shocked that the pro gay side in religion didn't back those postal workers.

Ok....if people are married...gay or straight....they normally have sex. Most of these religions who don't support gay marriage....don't support gay sex.
So go roll your eyes elsewhere.

Try again. You made a assumption where I wanted another church to send out documents saying gay sex is right.
You do know what they say about assumptions.
