Whenever I see that word, I can't help but imagine Titus from "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" using it to describe something that is the opposite of fantastic.

Canada's version of a capitalist democracy (or socialist democracy if you prefer) is heads and shoulders above that of the USA.

Canadians care about their fellow citizens and for their fellow man.

I wouldn't want it any other way.

It is a defining characteristic of Canadians and it will never change.

Illuminaughty - you are out of step with the OVERWHELMING majority of Canadians and (thankfully) your version of libertarianism or capitalism will never take root here.

How many billionaires in Sweden and Canada as opposed to the US? I'm also thinking heavy tax rates are going to limit class mobility as well. I mean how much class mobility could there possibly be in Sweden, everything has been essentially flattened out.

Default No room at the Inn

You can't make this stuff up.

Trump's team forgets to make hotel reservations.

Quote:
The White House apparently waited too long before making a reservation for Trump and his traveling staff for the summit, which begins on Friday. All the luxury hotels in the city were completely booked by other world leaders, leaving the US president — who made his name in business building, uh, luxury hotels — without a place to stay.
Quote:
It’s unclear where Trump will be sleeping, but the Associated Press is reporting that he’ll be staying at the official Senate guest house in Hamburg. His staff will stay at the US Consulate General in the city.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this, Tillerson didn't go that far but said that the two presidents agreed to “move forward” and not “re-litigate the past”, which is pretty much the same thing as it means there's no further price for Putin coming from Trump.

Putin got what he wanted I think, he got a meeting on equal footing, Trump treated him as a peer, didn't pay any further price for his actions.

Trump didn't commit any gaffe that we know of and comes away with a cease fire so that counts as a success for him I guess.

Amazingly this tweet came from a "Russian sherpa" at G20. Now deleted as I'd imagine Donnie told Vlad this is going to cause me headaches (too late obviously now). To be fair, I don't think Ivanka has dementia so we should, I guess, welcome her in his place even if she's dangerously unqualified herself.

Politico's take on Trump and Putin

Trump Handed Putin a Stunning Victory

Quote:
President Donald Trump needed to accomplish two things this week during his visits to Poland and the G-20 Summit in Hamburg. First, he needed to reassure America’s allies that he was committed to collective defense and the core set of values and principles that bind us together. Second, he needed to demonstrate that he understands that the greatest threat to that alliance, those values, and our security is the Kremlin.

Trump delivered neither of these. In very concrete terms, through speech and action, the president signaled a willingness to align the United States with Vladimir Putin’s worldview, and took steps to advance this realignment. He endorsed, nearly in its totality, the narrative the Russian leader has worked so meticulously to construct.

This is so absolutely true.

After living in the US for over a year and a half now, I've come to realize that the best way to maintain my sanity is to not care about my neighbour and only worry about my well being.

Ivanka is a whole lot less embarrassing sitting there than her father.

I love how shes out there going to meetings for entrepreneurship for women in the world, like wtf could she even talk about having a rich daddy to help her... It must be infuriating to the other women there who actually became successful from nothing, listening to a billionares baby talk about issues of helping women become business successes.

Lol, Putin trolling the media, or Trump, or everyone.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday said that he thinks President Trump agreed with his assurances that Moscow had not interfered in the 2016 presidential election, but suggested that reporters ask the U.S. president what he thought.

The White House did not confirm or deny Saturday the suggestion that Trump, embattled at home by an investigation into Russian meddling, had agreed with the Kremlin leader, who U.S. intelligence agencies allege oversaw a hacking and disinformation effort.

Putin on Saturday said Trump “asked many questions” about Russian interference during their closed-door talks on the sidelines of the G-20 summit. The Russian leader said he had repeated Moscow’s stance that “there were no grounds to believe that Russia interfered in the U.S. electoral process.”

“It seemed to me that he took it into account, and agreed,” Putin told reporters on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg. The Russian president added “you should ask him.”

Asked on several occasions during a briefing with reporters on Air Force One if they agreed with Russian assessments of Trump’s reaction, White House officials avoided giving a direct answer. “I think President Trump handled it brilliantly,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said repeatedly.

I initially thanked this post but have since removed it after giving it some thought. These meetings aren't about how to run a business, they are about women's rights and planning how to address the issue of inequality. Silver spoon or not Ivanka faces this issue the same as any other women. It doesn't matter if you are living in luxury or poverty, the severity of its impact may change however the inequality is still there. Credit where it's due to the trump administration, it was much more sensible, and likely constructive too, for Ivanka to be at this kind of meeting as opposed to President Tic Tacs.

To give credit you would have to assume something was done because of constructive reasoning instead of just "letting women deal with that woman stuff".

Even if just "letting women deal with that woman stuff" was his reasoning I'd give him credit for that, sending someone who can potentially make a positive contribution when he has no interest or expertise on the subject is much more helpful decision than him going and daydreaming through the meeting just to feel important.

If being there would have made him feel important, he would have been there.
