If you're looking at his shot suppression stats you're ignoring the fact that he was sheltered in St.Louis. 60% of his faceoffs are in the offensive zone and he doesn't play against other teams top lines.

Actually 38% offensive zone, 28% defensive zone, 34% neutral zone. And that's fair, "better defensively than offensively" was probably an exaggeration. But the notion that he's bad at defense is still wrong. As for competition, from a shot generation perspective, his opponents averaged about the same amount as anyone else on the Blues (his OPPSF60 was 29.27, Pietrangelo was tops at 29.76).

Yeah misspoke in that it's the ratio of zone starts that are 60-40 offensive zone to d-zone.

Still he's not great defensively, not a liability but isn't a true number one or two dman

Lol, oh my god, you are an insufferable blowhard. I'm getting what you posted "wrong" because you have no idea what you're taking about. The only unprecedented behavior around here is your false sense of superiority.

Anywhere close to that is too much for a guy that's not good 5x5.

Shattenkirk was completely invisible for Washington.

That's not bad. About half a million too much but for a UFA that's to be expected. Pretty good for the Rangers

This is a pretty modest move by rangers standards

Seriously. People get so unbelievably angry, totally disproportionate to what I'm saying... It's like I'm a woman criticizing the President or something.

Anyway, I thought the deal before was fair, and I think this version is slightly better than fair for the Rangers. I know, I know, hot take of all hot takes.

You lost me here...wut?

Clearly the disconnect is about player valuations, and while I appreciate you having a different position, you are pretty rigid on your player valuations and then you used the advanced stat argument to assert your rigidity. If anything, advanced stats arguments should create an impression of a player that is somewhat grey rather than being black and white, but it does help to inform.

You say that people shouldn't use correlation to indicate causation, and I agree with you, but almost all advanced stats are correlative to player success, not an absolute determination of a successful player or what value they have.

As far as FA defenceman go this isn't terrible. Term is manageable and the salary is high, but it's not outrageous.
