that's it in a nutshell.
I absolutely loved him in that one season that got him this contract. Absolute warrior on both ends, and I believe he had great chemistry with Backs back then. Then he got paid, and that was that. Too bad, but personally I thought Hathaway was a lot better already last season and a fraction of the price.

Wonder who we will be signing tomorrow. Exciting.

His body couldn't keep up. He went all out and sacrificed his body for his team. He couldn't do it on a regular basis anymore and had to hold back and that lost his effectiveness. If the Bouma we was in 2014/15 was the Bouma we got for each of the past two seasons then he'd be still a Flame and very very popular with the fans.

Hes a heart and soul player, I hope he puts it together and gets another chance somewhere.

Might be more of a contract dump than a money savings thing. I always wanted Bouma to succeed and he a had a great year two years ago but you just knew that contract he signed would be the death of him here.

I wonder if there's a human element to the buy out too, as I agree sending him to the minors and getting him off the cap would make more sense to me.
Get him done so he can get to another organization now and get on with his career?

Buying him out doesn't really save you much. Which suggest to me maybe they didn't want in the dressing room anymore. Maybe Bouma has been doing too much of what he got disciplined for under Hartley?

Lets just say that, allegedly, the bar skanks around town might be sad now that Bouma's gone

I think the speculation is he was the ring leader that time Johnny and Mony? Got in trouble for being hungover after the Super Bowl or whatever it was.

wasn't he punished for the same stuff as Mony and Johnny? I believe all three got scratched for a game at the same time.

Remember the SuperBowl weekend of 2016? Gaudreau and Monahan were healthy scratches after SuperBowl because they were out partying and they showed up late to practice the morning after. Bouma was in on that too. He didn't get much media attention because he wasn't one of the top players.

Bouma's not good enough to be an NHLer anymore. Best of luck in AHL or overseas, Lance.

I also believe that the buyuot was a "thank you" from the Flames to a blood and guts guy that sacrificed for this team. An AHL demotion to America's worst city to ride buses would have been unkind to him. I appreciate Flames management for treating him with more respect.

Bouma was a great player for us for a while, but that type of game wears a player down. Best of luck to him!

Scuttlebutt is that Bouma likes to party... a lot. Between this and Murphy I wonder if the Flames are at a money cap? I mean buying out Bouma doesn't save a lot of cap vs. just waiving and demoting him and Murphy saves you nothing on the cap so it has to be about the real dollars.

Bouma became a multi-millionaire, partied hard, boozed out, and lived the lifestyle of a stereotypical NHL player.
Good riddance. Happy to see the back of him.

Gotta hand it to Treliving. He has a plan, he makes decisions, and he gets stuff done! No waffling, no second guessing. Solid. Love it!

Played a great two-way, physical game the first couple of seasons, was overtaken in that role by Ferland, couldn't up his game.
