Just watched the draft, great pick. Very similar to Juolevi but maybe a touch bigger. Can't wait to watch him when comes to Victoria next season!! Seems like another high IQ player. Safe pick and will get to learn from some great Dmen.

Players in the upper right quadrant produce in both ES and PP situations
Players in the upper left quadrant produce in PP situations but not ES suggesting they are PP specialists
Players in the lower right quadrant produce only in ES situations but not so much in PP situations.
Players in the lower left quadrant don't produce much offence at all
Spoiler!

Nifty, but hard to tell how much of that has to do with what roles guys happen to be in on their respective teams. Some guys are first pairing, others aren't... It'd be better if they did p/60 but I don't know that those stats are available for juniors.

I watched the NBC broadcast live stream online. And during a break, one of the panel (not sure who because they weren't on camera) asked Bob if they though Valimaki would fall to Toronto. They seemed more interested in that than Liljegren and it was only a couple of picks away at the time.

Thanks for that ComixZone. Wish I could've watched Mackenzie and Button live! Good analysis. Interesting that they think he could be ready after a year. I wonder if it impacts what they want to do this summer in regards to getting a #4 or #5 guy to make room for this guy and Andersson longer term

For example, Jacob Golden for the Knights. He was on a stacked team as the #6 or #7 d-man. He put up all of 2 assists in 38 games, yet he's pegged to go in rounds 4-6.
I was surprised that he was even mentioned to be drafted as when he played he'd get 5-7 minutes a game, but again, the Knights were stacked, and scouts know way more than me, obviously.
Treliving said they had him higher than he went. Sounded like a few of the scouts were hoping he would fall to us.
By the 16th pick that's pretty much a given for every single pick the rest of the draft. All you need is 1 or 2 guys you don't like going ahead of your pick and your getting to pick a guy you thought you might not get.

I didn't realize he was a point per game player. That is an amazing feat in junior for a defenseman these days, especially the WHL which is seen as the lowest scoring, most defensive league.
Man, the more I read on this pick the happier I get.
I wonder if that changes the calculus on things when it comes to UFA.
Obviously, we are going to need a #4 like Stone, but with the #5 it might make more sense to run with a more veteran guy like Oduya or Brian Campbell who might be willing to take a 1-2 year deal. That way you can have Kulak/Andersson take #6 this year, and then bump them up the roster and have Valimaki push for the #6 spot the year after.
