he turns 20 october 2018... he should be ahl eligible regardless of what you're trying to dig up...
similar to rasmus andersson, no? late birthday.. back to chl one year, then ahl bound

and 2 months later he announced he would be joining Tri-City suggesting he was loaned.
If true that would mean he is AHL eligible

I am saying as a loaned European player to the CHL he would be eligible to play as a 19 year old in the AHL for the 2017/2018 season.

Solid pick, averaged at rank 15 of the consensus spreadsheet someone posted in the draft thread. Solid 3-4 guys are extremely valuable to the team and in terms of trade value, see rumoured price for dumba, scandella, Hamonic, etc.
Good pick, look forward to seeing him, Anderssen and Kyllington progress over the next 3 to 4 years.

If he can fill out like his dad, he could be a bruiser.

I just hope he turns out better than the last "all-around" defenseman the Flames drafted in the first round.
I get nervous when the Flames go "off the board" with their picks. They have a bad drafting history.

They didn't go off the board at all though. Valimaki was drafted around where most expected he would be.

This pick is as far from "off the board" as it's possible to get.

I would have preferred Liljegren but I don't think Valimaki was really off the board. Went where he was supposed to.

Juuso Valimaki was taken pretty much where he was expected to go, give-or-take a few spots.

Seems like our management has a penchant for targeting certain traits in their first round picks. Competitiveness, Character and Brains. Valimaki checks all three boxes; like Monahan and Tkachuk, if he continues to improve his skating it's hard to put a ceiling on how good he can be.

Does anyone have a video of the Flames selection here from NBC? Interested to see Button and McKenzie's take.

Vesalainen would've been a great pick, being a power forward (a need), but you can't go wrong with Valimaki. Solid pick.
