Well that worked out fine for us. We'll need to replace his bite on the blueline.

I don't follow. Please explain your logic further.

Lol. You are aware they signed him right?

I can't figure out if this is a tip of the cap to treliving for not having any valve to choose from or lack of depth in the system. Glass half full or empty?

Just like they did to the "softy tofty" Predators right? No wait, the Preds swept the Oilers...

Vegas was fine claiming Sbisa, but when they looked at the Flames' list they decided to 'burn' the pick instead of waiting a few days to sign Engelland anyway.

Really speaks to how highly thought-of those unexposed players really are.

Stuck with 3 overpaid guys who are either ancient or borderline ahlers on the 4th line and team is gonna be butlersoft when it comes to fighting next year.

keep in mind Engelland is also a good publicity story for the Knights. They may have been also afraid that the Flames would have pushed to re-sign him after the expansion draft

In what world is Sam Bennett going to command almost 3 million dollars a year based on his play in the NHL thus far?
that number maybe a little on the high side, but tracks similar to comparable players in terms of age, experience, and production.

Maybe but expansion draft was never going to change that.

PR move apparently.

If I was Vegas, I would have traded for the rights of Engelland and picked Kulak. Maybe they tried to acquire Engelland, but Treliving wouldn't trade him? Bizarre anyways

Hilarious Engelland would have been an easy and obvious UFA to sign. There has to be something more to this in days to follow right??
Flames get off with no loss. I liked Engelland's rugged style but the Flames were not going to resign him.

Neither.

VGK has a budget. The league has a salary cap. They can't just take a ton of high priced random guys from each team. They also have needs to fill. They also have contract limits.

Taking another player and then signing Engelland may have provided no upside. It just eats up an available contract for a player they have no value for. They could try and flip the player selection into a pick but then what if there are no takers?

GMGM wasn't making the Flames pick in a vacuum. Lots for him to consider.

However from a Flames perspective, this was a desirable outcome. Vegas wasn't taking an anchor contract for free.
