I am hoping it is Brouwer, Stajan, Bouma, or Chiasson
Steinberg thinks it is Kulak or Chiasson.
I want the Flames to be able to keep Versteeg, add Jankowski to the lineup and add another top 6 winger. Taking a roster forward off our list would help

Well sure, but we must lose someone.

I think it's worth noting that George McPhee's draft record is incredible. Basically drafted the entire Caps core. I think he's one of the best team builders there is. He's just really bad at tinkering with a contending line-up.

Stajan is not a terrible player, only over paid for what he brings.
He'll require a sweetner to get selected.
Better for Vegas to take a prospect, and then get something else to take on his contract.
|
Problem with Kulak, he is not a prospect...
He will require waivers this year...
Which I would guess is a factor, that Vegas will look at before they make a selection

as per Steinberg the Flames did not make any side deals with Vegas. So it sounds like they didn't give up any assets to entice Vegas to pick a player, nor did they give up assets not to select a player.

I haven't forgotten. Not saying that McPhee shouldn't be making deals to turn at least 7 of those 30 picks into first rounders and top prospects. Just saying the remaining 23 picks should make up a solid NHL roster. If most of the rumours are true, though, a lot more then 7 such deals are being made. But that's just my opinion, living in Nevada and all.

How does the cap hit of RFA's like Leipsic count towards the overall minimum of 43.8M?

Very true and one of the things that I think gets overlooked as that this is likely no accident, Treliving's likely been planning for this for a while and shaping things accordingly.

In a number of these deals, Vegas ends up with a different roster player.
In the proposed Minny deal, they end up with 2 likely roster players.

Would it be better for the Flames to keep Kulak than lose him for nothing? Absolutely. But in the grand scheme of things this is not an insurmountable loss by any stretch, and the Flames have made out much better here than several other NHL teams who have lost players and prospects substantially more valuable than Brett Kulak. It seems like a silly thing to complain about.

The player has to be signed before being selected...so any RFA's that LV might have been looking at selecting, they would have had to agree to a contract, sign it, and register it with the league prior to the submission of their final list of choices at 8 AM this morning.

I'm fine with that. Flames are in a really good spot as far as expansion. Whichever of the exposed players gets picked won't hurt the Flames much, if at all

I don't know... McPhee has a history with Brouwer (traded for him to Wash)... That may be enough!

I've got the lucky rabbit's foot out and have been rubbing a Buddha's belly all day while eating Lucky Charms but somehow I still dont think it'll be enough.
