he's an elite goalie or isn't.
Don't get this "elite at times"
you maybe mean a good goalie who sometimes gets on a hot streak or plays over his head.
he's as "elite at times" as Elliott is, and you know how that turned out.

I like his puck moving abilities. Well that can lead to some mistakes, it helps teams with the transition game.

Sure! Smith and Domi to Calgary in a salary dump deal is a great idea.

The guy will be 36 next season and he's been mediocre at best for 4 or 5seasons in a row now. He's not going to bounce back.

The thing is it sounds like the Coyotes expect a solid return which is terrifying as a Flames fan.

Apparently DeAngelo has a cap hit lower than the league minimum, which sounds insane and is probably untrue.

Assuming Cap Friendly has the right numbers, that's very untrue: https://capfriendly.com/players/anthony-deangelo
He's well over league minimum ($650,000 next season).

Man, I didn't realize Smith was that old. Even with 50% retained, that would put him at 2.8 million for the next 2 years.
The only way I'd take that if they took a Brouwer or Stajan back.
Otherwise just sign Miller, Bernier or Mason if you want an average to above average tender. They'd probably come in cheaper as there really isn't a huge market for starting goaltender jobs.

None of those three are above average anymore, I'm sorry to say. It's questionable if they're even average.

Haha, Smith for Hamilton? I'd add a fourth-rounder to that but nothing more.
Oh, you mean Dougie? Jesus Christ.

Feeling old here, but I recall when Craig Button bought out St. Louis and brought in Blake Sloan and people defended it by saying that the GM had a history with the player. After that, I am a little jaded. Having a history with a player can also work like a blinder.
I also remember when Petr Buzek was our token All-Star. The All-Star game is nothing but a marketing event.

Lest we forget a much more recent and painful example, Jay Feaster and his "history" with Shane O'Brien.
