I think Grubauer is a lost cause to be honest.
I think the Caps want to keep him as expansion draft bait to keep the Knoghts away from Orlov/Schmidt and I think if Vegas takes him they will keep him in hopes he is their long term starting option.

That is a great point, this expansion draft is substantially more complicated than just taking players that may be exposed.

It really depends on the cost at getting any of these guys, but MAF is definitely overrated. Forget his numbers because there's no standard deviation on them that I know of but the guy is wildly inconsistent. Great one day, horrible the next. Mike Smith is old and when will he break down? Burke has never been good with goalies, and you know he's advising Treliving. If this is the case, and one of those guys are acquired, they'd have to pay another team to take Elliott off their hands. Why not just have Elliott work with a psychiatrist over the summer then come back with a fresh start? MAF cost will be high, and Smith is old. If there are no other options out there, bring back Elliott and work through his problems.

Elliott is a free agent. It costs the team a third round pick to bring him back and costs them nothing to let him walk.

I don't want Fleury or Smith i think why waste assets when we could bring Elliott and Chad back on good deals.I would sooner fire our goalie coach.

Why do you think he wears it that short? Being a GM has a lot of pulling-your-hair-out moments, if you leave yourself open to the temptation.

Thankfully there are (hopefully) smarter people than us, within the organization, working through the intricacies of the expansion draft and how we can leverage our situation

I think the Knights trade for Fleury and then take 3 or 4 goalies in the expansion draft - Grubauer, Raanta, Korpisalo. They keep Fleury as the starter, and auction off two of the younger other guys, and keep the younger guy who's left as a backup.

Damn. I dunno how I was out to lunch on that contract. I assumed he was locked up for 4 years or something. My bad.

Raanta would be the guy I'd target. Young and perhaps the next big goaltender. If I were the Rangers I'd be paying Vegas not to take him as he should be the #1 over Lundqvist in a couple years, I'd think?

Raanta isn't really young anymore at 28.
Obviously he's not old, but he's definitely in his prime, age-wise. Considering king Henrik is making $8.5/year until 20-21 season, Raanta might be chomping at the bit to get a chance to prove himself.

Vegas is going to need prospect waiver eligible goaltenders (because there's very few available to draft) but will have a lot of waiver ineligible goaltenders. Calgary has the opposite problem.
One of Gillies/Rittich/Parsons/Macdonald/Schneider would probably be attractive to the GK's in exchange for a goalies of theirs that they can't use.

yeah, he was the guy I was hoping for too... seems stuck behind Lundqvist just like Talbot was...
wouldn't that be weird if there was two former NYR goalies battling it out in the BOA?

Raanta or Saros, my dreams, but the only one "plausible" is Raanta.

What are peoples thoughts on Malcolm Subban? Decent sized athletic goalie.
Bruins have Rask signed for 4 more seasons, and their back up (Khudobin) is also signed for next season. Their goalie of the future (19 year old, 6'5" Darth Vladar) is going to need the net down in Providence next season.
Meanwhile they have 23 year old Subban with 135 AHL starts under his belt and a 0.918 sv%. Not outstanding numbers, but fairly decent. (A guy like Martin Jones had a 0.921 sv% in 160~ AHL games)
Maybe he could be had for cheap and brought in to platoon with a vet hoping he takes the net for himself eventually.
|
I have seen Su bban play. Athleticism is ridiculous but positioning didn't seem to be a strength. If he makes it he can be the next MAF type who is better at making the tough save than just taking care of business.

I want Mike Smith. He needs a change, and has proven to be an elite goalie at times. If he is healthy and Phoenix is willing to trade him for peanuts rather then lose him all together. Do it up
