Trump is quoted as saying on CNN "he has tapes of his conversations with Comey". Isn't that the whole thing with Watergate? Nixon had tapes of all the conversations and was pushed by the investigation to given them up causing a constitutional crisis.

Trump is awful, but quite often, so is this thread.
You know, there is an actual subject in this thread where a legal perspective would be of great value. But instead of jumping in and sharing a lawyers perspective you instead choose to crap all over others. And you complain about the quality of the thread? Look in the mirror counselor.

This is all just a giant live-action mockumentary of Nixon.

The thing about the Nixon tapes was not that the tapes existed, but that there was a big gap in recordings that could have provided clarification on issues.

And right on cue, the Democracts from the House Judiciary and Oversight Committee are demanding the release of the Trump-Comey tapes. This does seem like a Nixon re-run

Quote:
Senior House Democrats demanded on Friday that President Donald Trump turn over to Congress any tapes he might have made of his conversations with ousted FBI Director James Comey.

Reps. John Conyers and Elijah Cummings, the top Democrats on the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, wrote to White House counsel Don McGahn asking whether such tapes exist and requesting copies if so. And Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, issued a statement saying Trump must either provide the tapes to Congress or admit he made them up.

On Friday morning, Trump tweeted that “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!” The tweet followed a New York Times story in which sources close to Comey said Trump had asked him over dinner to pledge loyalty to the president and that Comey declined.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Friday declined to answer questions about whether the tapes exist and whether there are recording devices in the White House.

A constitutional law expert chimes in Trump's firing of Comey.

It's absolutely nuts that the President even demanded that in the first place. In functioning democracies the judiciary is sworn to uphold the constitution, not the president. Add this to the long list of crimes that Trump can be charged with with the GOP had any shred of morality or loyalty to country.

Hey man, there was a thread made up specifically for your type, that finds this one awful.

Feel free to enjoy

Trump is the best at digging holes, and then digging them deeper, frankly.

How many times has he said something ridiculous that has come back to bite him in the ass.

He still doesn't realize he is in politics and not bullying sycophants in a boardroom.

I would put all the money I had that he doesn't have any tapes of Comey saying he is not under investigation.

Not unexpected IMO. Will wait for a subpoena and then conduct his session in camera.

This isn't really a fair or constructive comment unless you're providing examples. All I've seen so far is pure criticism of a president that has so far deserved no more, which you pretty much stated yourself was okay and justified. So then what are you referring to beyond that?

So, just for fun I wanted to see if there was an archive of press briefings, and sure enough, there is.
So I went back in time, to today pretty much in 2009 and read it. Considering there was a major recession going on etc, it still seemed so normal, and relative.
Press briefings these days are all covering up for Trumps mental instability.

I'm not going down that road. It would de-rail the thread in a manner that the moderators have specifically asked us not to do, and despite people pushing the envelope at points, my understanding of the board rules is that you're not supposed to take personal shots at other posters.

What I was trying to do was respond to Makarov's comment and pointing out that he was operating on a false assumption. You don't have to think that Trump has been, in his words, "effective, strategic, or successful" to find some of his interlocutors pretty deranged. So take that as a less incendiary amendment to my earlier post, I guess.

Further to this I thought it was some separate law firm, I guess it's the same guys that did his supposed distancing himself from his companies (even the same lady that did that presentation with the stacks of unlabeled folders of blank paper). So yeah...

Okay fair enough, I just found the final comment you tossed out to be purposely provocative, with no intention of addressing it yourself, which to me would mean it was unnecessary to post it.
