Yeah and that doesn't even consider how much cheaper it is to live in Dallas compared to Calgary.

Looks like Bishop gave the Stars a discount. I guess he really wanted to play in Texas. Still happy the Flames didn't give him a 6yr x $6 or 6yr x $7 million deal.
What goalies are realistic options now? Grubaur, Fleury, Elliot, Bernier, Mason?

I guess we now find out what sort of side deal has been made with Vegas to eat one of the existing contracts that Dallas still has in goal. At this AAV they can likely carry Bishop and either one. I guess if they buy out Lehtonen, they up the goaltending budget by 2 million next year, but than have it start going down once the other contract expires.
Nobody in the league should take either of those existing contracts unless they get this years first, plus at least a 2nd next year.

Dallas really nailed it with this one.
They just became a whole lot better.
You'll see, we're going to wish we had gotten him when we had the chance(s), this deal price or higher...

I'm out of thanks, but this. 100x this.
If he signed a 6x6 with a NMC in Calgary, wonder how many would be happy then.

Outstanding work by Dallas, very envious of this move.

Would have killed to have him on that deal. An elite goaltender for less than 5 per? Missing this one stings.

for sure; i think people look at the numbers and think that's a solid deal for Dallas, which it is...
However, as many have stated earlier, its unlikely he would have signed that deal here because of the differences in taxes...
a 6x6 changes the evaluation matrix for sure... at that price, I would definitely be unsure if its a win...

Yeah, when I hear fans on here slamming a guy like Bishop as a poor option for the Flames and a bullet dodged I can't really imagine what they're looking for in a goalie to be called elite/top starter material, that's even remotely available.
I mean, he's not perfect and yeah there's better goalies, but it almost feels like fans are on a bit of a unicorn chase for a Carey Price type, or want to wait for a young goalie to maybe pan out. Well great, but how many seasons to do wait to see if it works to get a non household name to be a top starter for us?
We're not exactly on year two of a rebuild anymore.

Facts are facts, it cost Calgary and extra million almost to match the deal
in Calgary its 6x6
so no Calgary didn't miss out on getting him at under 5M, thanks NDP

While true, Calgary was never getting this deal. We'd have been looking at a much less palatable deal.
Important to remember.
I dont want Bishop in our crease at 36.

Elliott cost more games than he stole IMO
He had a stretch where he played really well, but the Flames were also the better team in many of those games. Absolutely blowing the first few games of the season and the last few games of the playoffs is inexcusable
Not to mention if the Flames plan is to bring back the same team then whats the point? pretty hard to get anyone excited about Elliott in net and Ferland on the top line IMO
Bold moves

Glad the Flames weren't roped into that when there's a 50% chance he's a below average goaltender.

Except for the fact that number is totally made up and has no bearing on reality.

I wouldn't mind Lehtonen in Calgary. I feel a new team could do him wonders

I agree about Ferland but I think if you brought back Elliott, he will be better. Unless that ducks series completely shattered any confidence he had left. Still Elliott is not coming back simply because of the pick tied to his new contract
