their goal tending was FAR better, and I guess he is part of the team

We get adequate goaltending, and this series probably goes 7. We get elite goaltending and the Ducks are the ones flying back home to prepare for garbage bag day...

Well disappointing end to such a fun and exciting season! There was alot of ups and downs but all good experience for our young core group which they will be able to grow on.
These past 4 games against a top tier team and we were able to hold our own in every game. This is very encouraging! We got a good first hand look at what it is going to take to get to that next level. We beat ourselves with some bad penalties, undisciplined play, bad bounces and shoty goaltending but this is all fixable.
Still think starting Elliott was a bad decision for the start of this game. But again a learning experience for our coaching staff. Keep GG, he has done alot of good with the team this year and lets see what he can do till his contract is up. The special team and goaltending coaches have to be switched or upgraded.
Thank you Flames! Can't wait for next season.

That was almost more painful for me than being swept in the 1st round. Granted the Flames were playing some of their worst hockey of the year at the time, but still, losing 4 straight to team lottery ball was rock bottom for me this season. They can't let that happen again next year.

My god there is so much stupid in this thread.
Do you people even watch the games? The flames were and are a good team. They lost on bad goaltending and some bad bounces, it happens. The Stanley Cup is the hardest championship to win, you need a lot of bounces to go your way and the Flames had zero.
Under Gulutzan the flames looked and earned the results of a good team. They looked infinitely better against the ducks this year than they did in 2015.
People blaming GG for starting Elliot do realize that Johnson is a career backup who hasn't played well since February, right? GG did the right thing in giving Elliott the start and in having the quick hook. If Johnson had played well down the stretch, maybe GG could have went to him earlier in Game 3 but this was not the case plus Johnson was also recovering from injury.
Firing Treliving and GG would be a massive mistake. You build on this season. I think some people honestly thought the Flames were a Stanley cup contender and that's why they are so disappointed. Look at how young the core is! The future is bright.

Just like in the regular season, needed .920 from the goalie.
.920 and this is at least a tied series.
Tkachuk needs to grow. Monahan is a big game player. Versteeg is a great performer too.
Massive doubts about Gaudreau and Brodie. They need to come back different players next season. Shadows of their former selves. They are way way better than that.
I think one of these young goaltenders is going to take the team to the next level. Good feelings about Parsons. I think our time is coming. The time of Chicago and the California teams is slowly running out as their cores age. Probably 3 years and there will be a new set of contenders and I'd wager the Flames are one.

Two five-on-five goals for in four games. Even if goaltending was bad and bounces were worse... you need to be able to score at even strength.

I'm surprised people are putting the blame on Gulutzan, he's one of the first coaches since Darryl that has me actually confident that the Flames have the ability to beat good teams without getting killed in all other stats. I know that sounds wrong after we got crushed by the Ducks, but I at least want to see another year out of him.

If not, how do you know?
There are a ton of problems with that game right now. Who is to say they get resolved?

I wouldn't say a ton of problems at all. And even if Gaudreau never improves on his first three seasons you make that fourth round selection EVERY DAY.

You only go as far as your goaltending will take you. Not picking up Miller or another goaltender at the deadline was the nail in the coffin for this crew.
Fortunately, there will be goaltenders aplenty available in the offseason.

And one day, all this Ducks luck is going to change. When it does, it's gonna go the flames way for a while. Law of averages will (must) apply.
I hope they don't win any championships before then. And if they do then we can at least say we were merely out bounced by a top team playing at its peak. A lot of villainy and scum over there though, no offense or anything. Sometimes you need that for success.

Anderson in Ottawa and Talbot in Edmonton have been lights out. Not so much for Talbot in his last game.

Anderson had a .920 and .940 save % in the first two games playing the best offensive team in the league. He stole game two and almost stole game 1
Please don't even suggest for a second the Leafs goal tending has been as bad

God, they interview Versteeg after every game. For good reason.

Oilers wish they took him #1 over Yak
but yeah don't compare him to grinders either, he obviously plays a different game with different strengths. He had a rough series but lets not get crazy here.

That would be impossible. Not even the same draft.
He doesn't play the same game but he still needs to learn to take the hits.
