Saying he can't take the hiys is a pretty bad defense. He has been around long enough to adjust.

your other point? I can guarantee you that nobody thinks they were "right" for passing on JG 3 times in the draft lol
Oilers wish they took him #1 over (RNH my mistake)
but yeah don't compare him to grinders either, he obviously plays a different game with different strengths. He had a rough series but lets not get crazy here.

Yeah I'm with PepsiFree.
I don't think you remember how brutal last season was. It was atrocious, and I'm sure internally, there were some locker room issues with Bob.
First season, ties our longest winning streak, gets us in the playoffs, plus looking way better than 2015s playoffs, I think Glen did good and when we saw flashes of the team buying into the system, we really showed promise.

This series exposed us as mentally weak and we play too small physically. Kris Versteeg was our best player against the Ducks IMO and Monahan showed again why he is our #1 player overall. Johnny is exciting to watch, but he plays too small - and frankly looked scared at times on the ice against the Ducks. He's going to have to toughen up a bit if we expect him to lead us to the promised land.

I got to watch most matches since they started to late (like 4-5 in the morning here).
1) It was a collective team effort loss. One or two goats every game (usually goalie + one random)
2) Best players weren't best players, surprise. Monahan scored some goals, sure, but Hamilton, Elliott, Gaudrueauuauauuae et. al. were missing. Brodie? What happened to that guy, can't complete a pass or receive one, nor get a shot through.
3) Coaching. Randy says Hi Glen! I'll just clog this neutral zone up and ##### up your whole transition game - GG GG
Sooo. It was a good learning experience. They got schooled, good teams find ways to win and Anaheim's veterans lead the way. They chirped, chipped and got the Flames off their game. Didn't hurt to have Gibson in net either.
It was massive improvement on last season so perhaps this was a good thing in the long term view of things.

Ugh just got home from the game. Crowd was amazing and loud until the two softies. You could feel the tension after and it really affected the emotion of the game.
Flames need to shoot more, so many wasted chances going for the extra pass or dipsy doodling around. Shoot the ####ing puck, bounces will happen like they did for Anahiem.

Disagree about being too small physically.
I thought that was a stark contrast vs. the last time we played the ducks. We stood our ground against LA and Anaheim physically this year.
Maturity and the mental aspect with a young team is still an issue, but no way did they play small. They were very much in that series physically against a bit tough team.

Their team didn't play perfectly either...they just had NHL caliber goal tending that masks other problems
WE LOST FOUR ONE GOAL GAMES WITH A TENDER WITH A SAVE % IN THE MID .800S
IT BOGGLES THE MIND

Seems the team got better over the course of the series but sadly Elliott trended in the opposite direction. Throw in some deflections into our own net and an illegal goal that should never have counted and we didn't stand a chance.
I don't want to rip Brian Elliott, I am sure he will have to live with this series for the rest of his life.
In retrospect though it is a miracle we even made the playoffs and Elliott was the biggest part of that. But what have you done for me lately, and all that.

I think that has to be one of the most telling facts on how close this series was. Really would have been 3-1 if we had a goalie like Gibson, no doubt

Pathetic. Gaudreau faulter's like a scared little girl every game against Anaheim, saw it in 2015 live and same this series. Dougie Hamilton needs to go to a brain specialist to get his ####ing head examined to determine if he has a brain. Trash. Gio... whatever man, trash. Elliott... I hated Hiller more than anyone in my life, but wow ... he seems like at least a nice guy, but you're a trash goalie and cost us the series. Johnson... trash. Brouwer is trash. What the hell is he even doing out there at all? Bart was trash, hate that guy and rather have seen wideman. Stone was good. Gully... I don't even know where to start, you should zip tie your head down to your chest in shame for the rest of summer for that pathetic display of coaching.
Oh and anyone cheering for the Oilers can go #### themselves. See you next season, gonna wither away tonight in misery. ####.

Hamilton was pretty bad in the playoffs which is disappointing but not surprising given how young he is. He has a bright future but undoubtedly had a bad playoffs.

The 2 best players taken in that Draft were Barkov and Monahan two big 2 way centers geez wonder why , but Barkov is better defensive center and younger . Barkov has missed 20 games in both last 2 seasons Monahan has been healthy Barkov actually has a better ppg last 2 years .You need to watch some Florida games to see how good defensively he is . Love Monahan but Barkov is better jmo.

1st goal allowed was garbage. Absolutely the right call to pull Elliot. It could have been a blowout loss if not for that.
Flames started to show some promise on the power play but couldn't sustain much of a threat 5-on-5.
Gaudreau had an off year and made little impact in the playoffs.
Ducks are built to win the cup. We are technically in rebuild. Hopefully we don't make any drastic changes as most of players' best years are ahead of them, I figure.
10 game win-streak was the highlight of the season. Getting swept by the Oilers during the season planted a seed of doubt that was hard to overcome.

But..
Did he peak? Was that it?
If not, how do you know?
There are a ton of problems with that game right now. Who is to say they get resolved?

the first overall pick from his draft has 120 points in 292 games...yet teams were "right" to pass on him 3 or 4 times in some cases according to that genious

What's frustrating is that this 4-0 series sweep is not indicative of how close the series was. We were not dominated by the ducks. Shots, scoring chances, puck possession, hits were all even. Just didn't get that one extra bounce.
