Just not the 2017 playoffs. Seriously we were playing the Ducks. No one was good. Backlund, Tkachuk, Hamilton, Ferland, Frolik. With a healthy Fowler and Vatanen, they would have won in 3 games.
It's really too bad that they didn't play the law of averages and tank to play the Hawks in the first round. For sure we would have more than 0 wins.

Forgot to mention how good the special teams were after being so horrendous early in the season. Amazing turn-around in that department over the course of the season.

I know it was a tough series, but the amount of negativity in this thread is disappointing. Thanks to the few of you who are trying to be positive.
I had a ton of fun this season. Yeah, crappy ending, and some players didn't play as well as I had hoped, but overall it was an awesome year. Back in the playoffs against one of the better teams in the league who, let's be honest, didn't deserve two of those wins and the other two were hard fought games that could have gone either way. This team played them very hard and deserved a better fate.
This is a very young team and there's a lot to like. Development isn't linear. Gaudreau will be back again. Monahan was solid as ever after after a slow start. Bennett took his game to another level in the playoffs which is a good sign. Hamilton scored 50 points this year. Tkachuk was arguably the most impressive rookie I've seen on the Flames in a long time. And all these guys are 23 and under!
I can't believe the doom and gloom right now. I'm proud of how the boys battled this year. Can't wait to see them battle with Edmonton for first in the division next year! I believe in this group! Go Flames go!

The PP was decent in the series but I still think we need to move Brodie to the 2nd unit.
He won't shoot... and the lack of a big shot as an option on the first unit stuck out like a sore thumb all season.

Well we tried our best at the Dome to inspire the team. Stood for the last Standing O at 7m mark. Then stood for last 5 min straight. We showed our metal as Calgarians.
The team did not.
In a show of unbridled support we threw everything at the Opposition.
The team did not.
I just want to add nobody prompted us to stand we just did.
So eff all of Sportsnet and TSN when the like to dog Flames fans.
We stood for team trailing 2-1 about to be swept when they were giving us little to cheer for on the ice.

Game 3 was overall much louder. Louder start, louder sustained. Loud cheers to start each period.
Tonight in the 3rd the crowd was great in trying to pull the boys up, standing for the last 6 minutes, but overall Monday was louder.

I'd like to see this for the powerplay next year.
Gaudreau - Monahan - ##### (hopefully T.J. Oshie)
Versteeg - Hamilton
Tkachuk - Backlund - Bennett
Giordano - Stone

If we had Gibson in net and they had Elliott we'd have swept the Ducks.
It's that fine a difference.

So would you still not Trade Gaudreau for Barkov ? Monahan is our best player I don't care about how many points you get in a season I care about how you play when it counts. Anyways hope Burke and company see the weakness of this team and start correcting it.

To think a Winnipeg Jets goal in the final minute of the 3rd period in a meaningless game to them vs the Preds to give them a 2-1 win on the final saturday of the season booked us a matchup with the Ducks. Had that game went to OT we would have played the Hawks.
I guess it just wasn't meant to be for this team. It is painful being a fan of this team, yet I keep coming back year after year.

Surprises that there isn't more criticism of Gio's play tonight. Gulutzan talked about how the team was jittery tonight and Gio was the epitome of that. Indecisive, nervous and just not the player we were used to in the regular season. I wonder for a guy who's been in a league as long as him but with limited playoff exposure it might have been a struggle for him to find another gear.

Edit: actually, after seeing how Barkov played this year, I would actually probably not trade Gaudreau for him. They had similar stats so I'd be willing to wait on Johnny yet.

Agreed. That's what the post-game Fan960 crew said, too. At worst up 3-1.

Just back from the game. Crowd was great. Thought we were going to send it to OT.
Flames fans are the best. And such fun to chat with everyone on CP.
The Flames deserved better this series than a sweep. I see good things ahead for this franchise.

The team was jittery because Gulutzan made an assanine decision to start Elliott. The third shot of the game essentially went in from behind the red line and that set the stage.

They all learned to take the punishment Johnny better too or he will be in effective against alot of bigger teams in this league if that all it takes.

Any team would love to have him...he would go first overall in a re-draft not in the fourth round
you are posting guys that aren't even in the stratosphere as far as offensive talent goes...he is not a ####ing grinder he was 6th in league scoring one year ago

I'd trade McDavid for Barkov if the Flames had him.
He's going to be the best player in the league.

They both also got first overall generational players. really can't compare the situations at all.
