Lawsuits for what? Players breaking contracts? How is that the IIHF's problem?

They don't have to. The IIHF will simply tell them they have no agreement with the NHL and the players have a legal binding contract to play in the NHL during that time period and therefore, they are not eligible to play. They could go over but all they will do is forfeit some salary to watch their country play...without them.

I hope Calgary disbands its multi-million dollar olympic bid committee for 2026 - that is a waste of time and money now. Its all politics at the IOC, and the next missile is theirs.

Again, how is a contract between a player and the NHL of any concern to the IOC or the IIHF?
I could see the NHL then not letting players go to the World Championships as retaliation, but then they are making issues with the NHLPA.

For the same reason the NHL honours KHL contracts. You can't just allow a player that has a legally binding contract to play for another organization. The IIHF has always honoured suspensions in pro leagues when it comes to the participation in the Olympics for this very reason. Lets say the IIHF comes out next week and says players that want to come can come. The NHL simply gets a judge to rule that they can't, they have signed a contract to play in the NHL during that period. They won't be eligible to play as that is breach of contract. They are not going. I am sure Ovi will go on about how disappointed he is and how wrong it is but he isn't going if the NHL says he isn't.

Haha you don't actually believe this do you?
A judge is going to stop a player from getting on a plane to South Korea?

Are some people not getting the law of a contract signed by a player? If you have a company and your workers are under contract and they go and work for the competition when you have stipulated they cannot what do you think happens next?

The IIHF honours suspensions handed out by the league.
If the NHL says that any player who goes AWOL from his team is indefinitely suspended, the player won't be allowed to play in an IIHF-sanctioned tournament.

They certainly don't sue the company they go work for.

I am sorry you have no idea how the legal system works, lol. Are you really being serious? Nobody will stop anyone physically from getting on a plane, don't be ridiculous. They will be ineligible to compete.

They could easily change that to spite the NHL. Obviously that would have to happen for them to accept players.
Besides, they haven't announced they would suspend players. Just that they won't shut the league down for 2 weeks, right?

I would love it if people boycott the NHL and Olympic hockey during the Olympics.

It is like Oprah or Allen show when they get famous, they opened their own doors and yell: "buy my program". I think it makes sense to see who has more bargaining chips here, who needs who more? Of cos it goes for the NHL.

If I leave company A to work for company B while under contract Company A doesn't sue company B, they come after me.

Good decision. About time.
Too bad the World Cup is such a tirefire.

If Company B knows the employee from Company A has a legal binding binding contract to work for Company A then Company B is most certainly getting sued.
