This bridge is helping cars more than it's helping pedestrians. As a pedestrian it doesn't make the sense to walk the extra the distance to the other bridge if you are coming from the train. It's probably the same amount of time to wait for the lights and cross the road. But now if people are not crossing at grade it helps car traffic so much.
Also when it comes to pedestrian traffic people are always going to take the shortest route. Always. Might as well design for it.

Hmm, I once had to step over a couple of prone bodies down there one afternoon. I assumed drunk, never considered that they were dead. Interesting.

Are they removing the crosswalk and forcing people to use the new ped bridge ??
If not this will solve nothing. Why climb all those stairs when I can walk across right here...

There's actually a plan for a mall expansion with / multi-residential towers on the Kal Tire location of that property. Should be interesting to see that go up one day.

I highly doubt they'll do all this work and then leave an at-grade crossing there for pedestrians. The whole point of the crossing is to help with traffic as that intersection has always been a nightmare.

Agreed! This is just enabling all those people who live in the deep south and want to drive to work on McLeod trail. Why should I have to pay for them?!?!

The crosswalk is on the opposite side of the street from the train station. You think people are going to exit the station, wait to cross 61st, then wait to cross Macleod when they could just use the new bridge on their side of the street?

Reason: mixed up the bridge and the cross walk

I don't think there is a crosswalk on the south side though. This allows the left turn into SB McLeod to flow better.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be an elevator on both sides of this bridge, west side for sure.

lived here all my life and I've never known about this. Where the heck is/was it? I can't see any underground tunnels in Google Maps. Now I'm disappointed I never got to experience it.

I haven't taken the C-Train in years but I'll "use" this pedestrian bridge every time I time I drive down/up MacLeod Trail without getting waiting for people to cross the road. Still lots of traffic jams/flow problems there but this will help.

There are more people complaining about people complaining, than there are people complaining about the bridge.

I have to say these posts are almost as annoying as the ones they are mocking as it adds even less to the conversation.
Back on the topic I agree with the poster that said this bridge was long overdue. I don't frequent the south much anymore but I was getting some automotive work close to that area in the summer and went to the mall to kill some time and it just seems crazy to have so many pedestrians crossing on a major roadway like that.
