Correct - with a win tomorrow the Flames will be in 2nd place in the Pacific. But then Anaheim plays Washington on Sunday, while the Oil play the Habs. So jostling could happen every day.

I watch alot of Flames games and Oilers games with a friend who is an Oilers fan. We watch Sportsnet feed for Flames game and the opposition feed for Oilers game. We can't stand Drew Remenda and Mark Spector. Tonight I wasn't able to make it over to his house and he doesn't have Centre Ice so he was stuck with Drew and Mark. He said he turned off the sound after the first period. An Oilers fan that can't stand Drew and Mark. He really likes the call by Hrudey, Debrusk and Simpson.

The Penguins didn't deserve Crosby either.

Maybe, but the point is that the oilers don't deserve anything good, ever.

Nor do the Pens tbh.
I have a difficult time believing that the NHL draft lottery isn't rigged when I realize that the Oilers and Penguins have appropriated four generational players between them in three decades.
It might not be as evident as the NBA lottery (Lebron to Cleveland, D-Rose to Chicago, Ewing to the Knicks), but it's probably a step down.

If it were rigged, a team other than the Oilers would have landed McJesus.

I don't hate Conner McDavid. I hate the Oilers and I am happy when their rebuild is 10 years in the making and they still only have a single line that is dangerous to show for it. They traded and got a bona fide goalie who is getting overworked. Their defense is awful.
Conner could score 3 goals every night as long as the Oilers lose I will have a smile on my face.

1) One of the craziest hockey markets in the league
2) A franchise which is one of the most successful in NHL history and the last official dynasty
3) A franchise which had then redefined the word "ineptitude" with a 9-year playoff drought despite numerous 1st overall and other high picks
4) A franchise which was on the verge of moving to a shiny new downtown arena
^ Taking into account all of the above, you don't see the angle for the league to have their next golden boy go to rejuvenate a franchise that was in the dump? From a pure business and marketing perspective, there were few markets better suited for Connor McDavid than Edmonton.
Toronto would've been the other one. I think the fact that Rogers Place was in the horizons was the deal-breaker for Bettman.

I think the Oilers offense' will really only kick into high gear when Puljujarvi emerges and Draisaitl is reinstated as the 2nd line Center.
I have a difficult time envisioning that team winning against Anaheim if they don't have home ice. Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg can and will neutralize Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl in a playoff matchup, IMO.

Don't ever go there man, that is beyond low to call a fellow Flames fan an Oiler fan just because of a difference of opinion. Disagree with him all you like but that is really low.

Help, save, whatever.

I will probably get banned for this but...
I really wish the constant whining about the announcers and McDavid could stay in the Edmonton is no good thread.
I like looking through the OOT thread to see what is going on in other games (who scored, great plays, dirty hits, etc.) and sure getting some opinions on bad calls, dives, all of that stuff. Oh, and what is going on in the playoff races, but when there is an Oilers game it seems like the OOT is mostly bitching about the most tiniest and insignificant things.

The OOT thread is for discussing things in the OOT games, including the announcers.
Also, I don't think your post is at all ban worthy, but if you have to lead your post with "I will probably get banned for this..." you should probably keep it to yourself.

I had to drive to Edmonton tonight so I listened to the game on the way. Jack Michaels actually calls the game fine but then just yells and gets excited for the dumbest reasons in the game. Rob Brown barely says anything.

Any big Eastern market (Canada or US) would have been better for the NHL...
Edmonton doesn't even register on when it comes to TV market rankings
Hell, Arizona would have been a better market to jump start a struggling franchise...Edmonton, as crappy as they have been, still out drew Arizona for season tickets and Rogers Place was happening even before the Oilers won the lottery (again)...
Edmonton winning tells me it wasn't a fix; that might have been the biggest bush league result in the history of pro sports.
Never, ever has a franchise secured the #1 pick in three consecutive drafts, much less 4 #1s in six year... the NHL should be flat out embarrassed for that debacle.

The Cleveland Cavaliers came pretty close in Basketball having 4 1st overall picks in 11 years. Given how much more individualistic Basketball is as a sport compared to Hockey, one could argue that that happen stance was even more fortuitous.

That famous commentator is Peter Maher.
And he would only do so in very significant moments for the team. eg. 500 goals for Iginla, the team making the playoffs after 7 years out, clinching the western conference. Pretty appropriate moments for a "yeah baby", and is in a completely different league from these TV guys in how he calls the game. He would not give such a slant to the Flames and certainly not just go silent during opposition goals. He would do his job and call it all.
Also being on local radio is a very Calgary centric audience. Much more so than SNET West, which encompasses all of Alberta and a much larger (and diverse) audience. You would think that more professionalism would be warranted there, but I suppose not.
That said, I've come to expect it and it's no surprise. So not much use in pointing it out every time. It's their broadcast, so whatever.

Nordiques picked first overall in 89, 90, and 91. Interestingly, none of them (Sundin, Nolan and Lindros) were on the team in 96 when they won the cup
